Default Craig Conroy signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

Deserves his own thread.

Has been instrumental in our AHL franchises, and the signing of a few NCAA players.

An American that is a proud Flame.
And honorary CANADIAN, on CANADA DAY!

I named my first car Connie. I can't express how happy I am that he is still a huge part of this organization.

One of my all time favourite Flames. His upbeat personality is just so damn infectious. Any team in the NHL would be lucky to have a guy like him. I'm just glad it's us that has him.

How can you not love the guy after this interview?.
I hope he stays with the organization till he retires.

Definitely great news. Always been a Conroy fan, even when he served a double-minor for high sticking in a rd 1 gm 6 OT against Detroit a few years back. I remember him sitting in the box looking like 'Oh sh*t I screwed up..'Luckily that was not the reason they lost that game. Was happy to seem him come back to the organization a couple years back and glad he'll be around for a few more!

Happy to see Conroy extended contract wise! What does an AGM make salary wise? Always wondered how much of a hit or salary bump a player might take when they move to coaching, management, President etc.

Not sure what Treliving is up to here. If he signs any more centremen, he's going to run out of roster spots. He'll have to start putting them in the front office.

Seriously, it's great that Conroy is still part of the organization and will continue to be for years.

Hopefully it was a 20 year extension.

Love hearing this kind of news. Conroy will always be one of the all time Flames greats to me, right up there with Lanny and Iggy. Glad he'll be sticking around for a while longer.

Got to love Conroy, great guy and player. He will be a GM one day.

My mother loves his smiling eyes, he reminds her of Gilmour.

As much as we all love Conroy's personally, I think most of us do not realize how big of an asset he really is behind the scenes.

There is one story from one of the pre-game STH sessions that really shows a portion of it for me.

My wife asked about Wideman's resurgence this year. Conroy explained what happened at the beginning of the year. Wideman was just scratched and he was talking to Conroy about how he could get back into the lineup. Wideman felt that if he was paired up with a player like Russell it would play to his strengths and allow him to excel. Conroy then discussed it with Hartley and advocated trying Wideman with Russell. He did, and then Wideman really started playing very well.

When Conroy told the story, he was really gushing on how great it was that Wideman was looking to make himself and the team better and how great it was that Hartley was willing to listen to an idea from a player (through him) on how to make the team better. Both of these were great, but the fact that Conroy facilitated the process really shows the value that he brings to the team.

This story really impressed me regarding both Conroy and Hartley. How many of these types of stories happened this year behind the scenes? Would Hartley won the Jack Adams without the help of Conroy?

I've also had a couple of opportunities to hear him speak about the guys in our system, and prospects we are looking at. The level of passion he has for the team is simply contagious, and I think is a big reason why some of our call-ups have been such great fits. At one STH meeting (late March) he went on about Bennet and the work he had been doing with him in the press box.

I get more compliments when I wear my #24 retro Flames jersey than any other I own. Very glad that he'll be a part of this franchise for many more years

Actually, yes. There's been multiple times where Conroy has gone on the ice to help the centers on the draw I believe.

Yeah Bennett pretty much sat with Conroy in the press box for every game and Conroy would quiz him about what the centre should being doing in Hartley's system at specific times and focusing on the little aspects that make good players great

Love Conny. Anyone know what his day to day responsibilities are? I remember he was instrumental in getting Horak in the Erixon deal when Feaster was here.

Edit: And was the welcoming committee for Johnny and Bill Arnold.

With Feaster he was the Ahl guyI believe, spending most of his time in Abbotsford, but that's Pascal's role under the new regime. Now I think he does a little bit of everything, I know he's been over seas to scout a few times, also goes and visits prospects to check in with their development and keep the organization in touch, acts a bit like a player personal guy liasing between the players and coaching/brad. I think he has his fingers in a lot of different aspects of the organization these days

It's nice to have a 'locker room guy' that's in the front office, that the players can come to and discuss things with. Nice 'bridge' guy to have.

And for the young guys coming up....he's a friendly/familiar face which smooths out the transition.

GJ Conny!
