Yes, I have worked a union job. If the NHL has the last say I still think he won't be back. Especially since he's pleaded guilty.

He wont be the first criminal to lace 'em up and he wont be the last.

Granted his crime is more severe than most, but I still cant see him being cut loose.

In light of what has happened in the NFL recently and how poorly that league looked in how they handled things I believe the NHL will take a tougher stance. I hope, anyway.

They said he could start serving July 14th. 90 days from then the season has already started. Or is there some time served in there somewhere?

Neither do I.

Voynov was suspended for a full year, and by the time he leaves jail, he will have basically paid his debt to society. The league might hand him something like a 10 game suspension this year, just to prove a point, but the NHL will almost certainly let him back. If it doesnt, the NHLPA gets to fight a war on two fronts, and this one might be easier for them to win than Richards.

Not necessarily the way it should be, but unless US proscecutors get him deported and/or Canadian officials deny him entry - nether of which I personally see as likely - he will be cleared to return at some point.

If he is reinstated I can't wait to see the mental gymnastics the LA Kings have to perform in order to justify not terminating Voynov's contract after they did so with Mike Richards for violating his conduct clause. We can get into a huge debate about morality and conduct but the way I see it is; if you beat your wife, you are a worse person than someone who does drugs. Granted, we don't know the full scope of the Richards situation. I may change my tune if we find out he was transporting pounds of Oxycontin to push at local playgrounds. The reality is that Voynov still has value as a hockey player and Richards does not. At least not equal to the value of his contract. If LA wants to use some player conduct/morality clause to get out of a contract with Richards but doesn't do the same with Voynov it's pretty clear they don't care about conduct at all.

Very unlikely he serves the full 90 days.

He has to surrender himself by July 14th. He could go in tomorrow, from what I understand.

So just before the season starts, maybe. He'll still miss training camp and won't have skated for 3 months. Needless to say he won't be ready for the opener. Hopefully he's deported or banned from the NHL and we don't have to worry about either way.

Everyone comes out the slammer completely jacked.

In all seriousness. I hope LA terminates the contract (has to be the same precedent as Richards) and the rest of the teams do an unofficial boycott.

Get him out.

Richards hasn't even been charged with anything as far as we know, and the Kings chose to (attempt) to terminate his contract.

Voynov should be an automatic by that measure.

Voynov is a useful player and his contract isn't an anchor.

It would look terrible, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings want to keep Voynov.

Except Voynov as a player benefits the Kings...at least on the ice. Richards sure doesn't do that form the AHL.

I hope the NHL suspends him for life. He will now be convicted, in a court, of assaulting his spouse. Ray Rice had his charges dropped and Adrian Peterson had his charges dropped to a misdemeanor and look at that continual damage that caused to the NFL. There is absolutely no reason why the NHL can't use Voynov as an example that it will not be tolerated.

Oh I'm sure they'd love to.

If they do, and I was Richards, I would be suing their balls off.

Oh yeah, the NHLPA is going to standby and love teams just terminating contracts for everything.

Again, I just dont see it. I'm not disagreeing, I think there should be more consequences than 90 days in the greybar hotel and 8 hours of community service but I just dont see the league or the players union launching Voynov into the Dead Sea.

I can't see Voynov playing in Los Angeles again. If he is allowed to play, I would bet they trade him, like MacTavish

Just imagine if beating up women was a breach of contract they could wash their hands of him and void his contract like Richards being addicted to pain killers.
