It was not meant as an insult

Also, how many forwards do we need? We already have:

Monahan
Gaudreau
Hudler
Bennett
Frolik
Backlund
Bouma
Colborne
Stajan
Jones
Ferland
Jooris
Granlund
Shore
Raymond
Bollig
Byron
I'm sure Treliving can get rid of a few that are totally useless (Raymond) or redundant (Stajan, Granlund, Byron)

If Hudler has a similar year to last year (or even regresses a bit), he is going to get an enormous deal as a UFA. $7 million+.
Man, you guys are just throwing numbers out there like money grows on trees. I guess stampede is just around the corners and everyone's starting to sniff those beer fumes!

Frolik's is a relatively cheap deal, especially given his age.
While he is relative cheap for a UFA... likely better value than Raymond's 3.1 x3 or Hiller's 4.5x2 or maybe even Engelland's 2.9x3 he is getting paid a lot.

Is their a rule that you have to get players as UFA's?

The basic concept of nothing given always earned goes against rewarding Frolik/Raymond for his play with another team. Even Hartley gave Raymond far more chances than he earned last year.... because the Flames had 10M tied up in him.

On the Jets Ladd, Wheeler, Little, Stafford/Kane, Perraullt, Scheifele and maybe Lowry would be higher on the forward depth chart.

If Buff is playing forward he would be in and around the Jet's 6th to 8th best forward.

On the Flames he will be behind Gaudreau, Monahan, Hudler, Bennett, Backlund ... he will be about even with Bouma and Colborne... so once again he slots in at 6-9.

Over the next 2 years Hudler likely will be gone and hopefully Ferland and Poirier will be pushing for a spot in the top 6...

4.3 needs to be at least top-6 money. especially when you will have 3 d-men making around 18 M

It will be hard to judge as the Hamilton trade and signing has moved the Flames up a level....to expected to make the playoffs... I don't know if Frolik fills a need the Flames were lacking that will move them into the Ducks/Hawks level.

Why would you include him with centers and left wingers when talking about the depth chart? He is a right winger and behind Hudler on the depth chart. In case you didn't realize, before signing Frolik we were really shallow on the right. He fills a need for the organization.

Well if you don't want to pay players for what they've done on other teams then the Flames would sit out of the UFA market and they couldn't sign Hamilton to his deal. They are better today than they were a week ago, all due to paying players for what they've done on other teams. I'm glad Treliving doesn't think the way you do.

As for Frolik, everyone already knows he can play anywhere from the 1st line to to the 3rd line. Read quotes from the Jets where they said when they needed a line to get going they would put Frolik and that line and it would start going. He's a very versatile, responsible player that can play anywhere in your top 9. And he signed for less than what many people believed he would. Kind of a strange contract to get up in arms about, especially since he's only 27. Great signing.

edit: I actually thought I was in the Frolik signing thread. My bad, sorry for derailing.

You are completely ignoring the fact that he is UFA-age, which simply can't be compared to ELC/RFA guys for cost.

UFAs are expensive. But that is because you can acquire a player without giving up any assets. That pushes their price up.

It's a great signing, regardless of where he slots into your silly RGI spreadsheet.
