Boston trades Reilly Smith and Marc Savard's contract to Florida for Jimmy Hayes
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Not only is BOS closing in on Matt Beleskey, but also hearing Bruins are working on a deal with FLA for Jimmy Hayes.

If they want NHL ready prospects, the Flames could match any package. But Tre isn't moving another 1st.

I'm surprised that FLA would move Hayes, to be honest. Figured they bought out Boyes to make room for Trocheck, and that their 1-4 RW was pretty set with Jagr, Hayes, Trocheck, Thornton.

Makes more sense now. RW for RW, trading size for speed.

There is some speculation that Hayes might be difficult to sign. He took Florida to arbitration. Burke traded him as an unsigned prospect for a pick he then used on a smaller player. Chicago got rid of him quickly.
At least with Boston being his home town, it might be easier.

Another huge part of the Jimmy Hayes-Reilly Smith trade: Florida also acquires Marc Savard contract

Lots of Bruins fans on HF like it.
I don't think Smith was very popular.

Savard is only owed 575 for this coming year and the one after, but his cap hit is over 4 million. Good job by Sweeney to get rid of that.

By moving Savard they have enough cap space to sign Beleskey

Yeah, I don't think they like him much because he was part of the Seguin trade.

They are saying he was a floater then will put up some points but is useless everywhere else.
There was actually a trade proposal thread on HF a few days ago and most Bruins fans were in favour of this exact trade (without even adding the Savard contract).

Marc Savard could noticeably aid the Panthers game in and game out just by showing up at home games and filling a seat.

How come Pronger's salary doesn't count against the cap but Savard's does? Aren't they both on LTIR?

Pronger does count against the cap as well, unless placed on LTIR. Why would Arizona have picked up the contract if it didn't count against the cap?
