Ken Wiebe @WiebeSunSports
#NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said the final offer he made to Michael Frolik was "very, very good in our mind... was very competitive."

Cheveldayoff stopped himself on 1 answer about Frolik, said offer was competitive and then, "in many ways..." cut himself off. #bn #nhljets

Hudler is 4th in career shooting percentage among all active players at .151.
Monahan is currently sitting at .160.
Sure it's possible that Monahan is an extreme exception to the rule, but it'd be a poor bet to assume that after a single season or two.
Cogliano shot .188 and .155 his first two seasons. and currently sits at .123 for his career.
|
I do hope you're comparing Monahan to Cogliano long term, pretty please tell me that's what you're doing.

Frank Servalli on TSN calling Frolik the "best buy" of the day, counter to the POV from the panel.

And? MMF suggested Monahan could be a 12-15% guy, which is where Cogliano is currently despite shooting very high his first 2 seasons.

Some perspective on Frolik's contract...
He is 13 months older than Backlund. Had Backlund put up 42 points in each of the last 2 seasons (he put up 39 and 27), who here would have been disappointed with a 5 x $4.3M contract?
Then factor in that Frolik is a UFA not and RFA. Plus, we take him from a conference rival.
This is a great signing. Absolutely no question about it.

I already stated its an example, not a comparison.
You can really take something out of context to a whole other level.

Cogliano had 2:01 and 1:57 of PP time in those seasons.
The next two seasons he had 0:54 and 0:55 minutes of PP time.
Monahan had 2:05 then 2:50 of PP time in his first two
Are you predicting Sean Monahan will be under a minute of PP time any time in his career?

But it's still an example that fell into MMF's 12-15% suggestion.

Gotta do it:
Kane - Gaudreau
Toews - Monahan
Sharp - Bennett
Hossa - Frolik (Hossa-lite, same type of player)
Keith - Brodie
Seabrook - Hamilton
Hjalmersson - ??????

I'll chime in and say the system Hartley runs is definitely part of the cause of many Flames players having high shooting percentages. They are not a team that just shovels pucks to the net from every angle. They had the 3rd lowest shots for in the league yet scored the 7th most goals because they constantly cycle and wait for those high percentage shots. It also doesn't hurt having skilled players who are tailor made for that kind of system. Also having top tier PMD's that can quickly transition helps the shooting %. Yes you may see some regression this year, but I don't think it's going to be drastic.

His suggestion is out to lunch.
15% is nowhere near the normal range for a top line player over a career.
There are only 5 active players above it.

Did I say a hard 15% each year, or did I use the term hover with a lower number of 12 in there as well?
Would 11-14 been better for you? I'll move my percentage range down one notch since the number fifteen seems to be some sort of emotional trigger that you obsess over.

That would be more accurate.
If you are going to make an argument based on statistics it doesn't really make much sense to just throw out random numbers without doing any fact checking.
Just for fun, we should make a bet on Monahan's shooting percentage in the upcoming season. I'll bet he comes in under .140.

Like AC said, it was fascinating seeing you obsess over the number 15, even though I had a smaller number in there that would lower the range. For whatever reason you didn't understand that concept. 12-15 doesn't mean 15!!!!!, it means a number moving between those. Sometimes higher sometimes lower.

Yeah, I could see that. Didn't I say earlier he was probably good for 20-25 goals?
He'll shoot more as he gets older, get more ice time. Shooting percentage goes down = shoot more.

The Ducks did not win the championship. They did not even win the West. They lost to a team with a lower "RGI" than most lottery teams in the league.

I thought you said you were done with this topic.
