After going all-in on this deal, if the Pens miss the playoffs the next two years, Rutherford won't have enough assets left to buy a rope to hang himself.

I do think Pittsburgh is the most logical destination for Kessel. If it's still true that the team receiving the best player wins the trade, the Pens won this hands-down. But that contract is scary, even at 6.8, because of the term.

24 years old and on his 6th team, next stop Sweden Tom.

The best part of it is that he got traded out of a team that was about to win the cup

You can take Sutter out now, they don't have the cash.

He's still signed for one more year at 3.3M unless you assume they're trading him.

With the depth the Pens have, Erixon may be forced onto the big team full time.

This is one of those rare deals where I look at it and I don't like it for either team. The Pens need depth, not one big contract. The futures for the Leafs are just 'meh', especially considering they had to eat some of Kessel's salary (which almost everyone knew they would have to). Just...........meh.

Looks good on ya, Tom "suitcase" Erixon. I'd suggest you and your tampering DB of a dad not consider buying a house in Pittsburgh ...

Erixon can always say to himself he was traded with Kessel, so this trade will always be his 'memorable' one.

Erixon still in the NHL? I'm surprised, what's this his 5th team now?

Is this the Tim Erixon that the Flames drafted? Is this guy bad luck for teams or what? Any bets on him being traded from the Pens by trading deadline?

It's interesting to me that the Penguins were only 19th in goals scored last year. But does Kessel adding 10-15 goals make them a Cup contender? Hard to imagine it does.

They waived him. He's a throw in/waiver wire material these days.

He's going to a team that has some decent D prospects so no chance he makes that team either.

Not a big fan if the deal. It's not terrible. I just hate eating 1.25 million per. I don't think that should have happened.

Kapanen is a big upside prospect though.

The Leafs prospect pool is s much better than it was a weak ago.

Said it before I'll say it again. Phil Kessel is criminally underrated.

If Kessel starts getting serious about his fitness he could be one hell of a player alongside Crosby.

So Kapenen a top 5 prospect in the world now! Right?

Well, Leafs and Penguins management seem to disagree. And unless you know something they dont, I'll go with the fact he is in fact over rated. The things that sucks most about this trade, is we will no longer get to see you blindly pump Kessels tires. It is extremely funny to us.
