Default world of warcraft...

I'm thinking of getting it and split costs with my brother. Is this a game worth getting and paying for monthly? From what I've seen it looks pretty fun.

Why should I get this game? Whats fun about it? What do you do? How much does it cost?

If you are splitting costs remember that this is an online game, so only one person will be able to log in and play at any given time. You'll never be able to play with each other. If you want to do that, you'll each have to buy your own copy.

As for is it worth it, over 6 million people seem to think so

It's a lot of fun though like most other games of this type the grind as you progress gets tedious and sometimes playing seems like work rather than like fun. And the game changes significantly once you reach the highest levels.

But as for what's fun about it, you get to run around and kill stuff with your friends, you get to collect equipment and grow your character over time, you get to do quests and see all kinds of different areas and things. I like exploring these games.

It costs $13-14 / month to play, plus the initial purchase of the game client.

I actually saw it for $34.99 + first month free at future shop, which is a pretty good deal imo.

Not too bad. Basically for the price of a movie a month. Me and my wife play together.

This is a really great game. I've spent hours and hours playing this game and had loads of fun.

But that's also the problem.

This game takes a lot of time, especially as you advance to higher levels. It's so easy to just sit down and play for 4 hours, and then look at the clock and wonder where the time went. I quit playing it just for this reason... it kind of gives you a false sense of accomplishment when really you haven't accomplished anything except sitting in that chair playing a video game for the last 4 hours!

Anyways, if you have time to kill and play a lot of video games already, then you are going to LOVE WoW. If you're looking for a game to just play every now and then, try poker

I use to play. I love the Warcraft franchise and this was a good game. I think its just got to demanding. I have a life outside of video games and this took up too much time and money.

You can play it for a 30 minutes but if you want the full experience and best items you have to play for hours. I might try it out again when the expansion comes out but I would rather play other games that take less time to invest and no monthly fee.

It was fun, but as you begin getting toward the upper levels in the game, as has been said, the time commitment grows and grows. My main complaint is that there seems to be nothing for the casual gamer types to do once they near the 'end' ... people who can spend an hour a day playing and such.

I played with a group of 'real life' friends which did help towards the end but ultimately I just stopped playing.

I used to be in a top Horde raiding guild, but burned out from being expected to raid 6 hours a night, 5 nights a week so I quit for a few months and then transferred to Doomhammer to play casually.

There really is very little for casual gamers to do in WoW. Anything geared toward casuals is just grinding and farming for hours and hours and hours on end.

Burning Crusade, the expansion that's supposed to come out early next year, is hoping to give some more end-game content for casuals and a revamped Player vs. Player system that doesn't require you to quit your job and social life and play 'round the clock to attain a high military rank. Things like new 10- and 15-player instances will allow smaller guilds and groups of competent casual players to gear themselves up and see some better end-game rewards.

So you can either spend 30ish hours a week raiding and getting gear every few weeks, or spend a few hours a week farming as a casual player and get a new piece of gear every few months.
