Crosby - $8,700,000
Malkin - $9,500,000
Letang - $7,250,000
Kessel - $8,000,000
Good luck building a competitive team, Pittsburgh.

Could be brilliant for Pittsburgh depending on what they gave up. Kessel getting the puck from Crosby and Malkin sounds like 40+ goals.

A lot of salary has to be going the other way, Pens don't have a ton of cap space for a deal like this...

I thought Pens are in trouble with the salary cap too. I am guessing Toronto might be eating a lot of salary here and also maybe pick a bad contract. It would be interesting how he can play with a good centre in Crosby or Malkin opposed to Toronto's dismal centres.

Great deal for Toronto here if they didn't retain a bunch of salary... unless Kapanen and Harrington bust, but at this point this was what they needed to get for him.

Wow, a solid return if true. Nothing amazing but another small skilled forward (2014 1st rounder), another LH defenseman to add to their somewhat overloaded roster and a pick isn't shabby.

This. Shut down their number one line the best you can and destroy them on the other three lines because they will have crap for depth. Bad pickup imo for the Pens.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
So, if you're the #pens: Do you play Kessel alongside Crosby or Malkin?

I believe in the Pony Power

I actually think the Pens win this. The guys Toronto gets don't have huge ceilings. Kessel is the new Brett Hull - when he was "the guy" in St. Louis they couldn't win. He can go to Pitt, where Crosby and Malkin are "the guys" and do his thing.
Playing with either of those guys, Phil is a good bet to hit 40 goals. A 40 goal guy for those pieces? Pitt with a great deal here.

I am totally underwhelmed by the return to Toronto, personally. Especially if salary was retained.

If there is salary retained there I might have done it for a similar package.
Probably not with the 1st actually unless they retained lots.

Or you play each of them on their own line and have three good lines.
Kessel showed in Toronto he can carry a scoring line.
