Don't forget, if (in my opinion, when) IA wins. They will hit hard for damages.

My dream scenario:

-IA wins the case, sues for damages which may end up near $200 million (I doubt they would get that much)
-After 5 years, executes it's out clause on the lease
-Partner's with the city of Phoenix OR Salt River indian community with the Suns to open a new building in the 3-5 year window from today.

That's key, I hope but do not see Glendale being sustainable.. especially after this.

Until Coyote fans are willing to pay at least twice what they pay now for tickets, I don't see it ever working anywhere in AZ. Get off the dole.

I get a kick out of these boards. One thread on the City of Glendale terminating a contract and the fans are for it because apparently the Coyotes don't deserve to exist. The other thread about Richards and the majority of the fans making statements along the lines of the Kings are reaching at straws to try and terminate his contract.

In both instances there is a valid contract in place and one of the parties involved believe they have a case for termination. It is funny to me that in both cases the fans have opposite views of who has been wronged. Just because the City of Glendale doesn't like what they have to pay for services doesn't make the contact invalid. I hope IA wins and sues the City for damages like Bouw said above. And once more information comes out about the Richards case it will be interesting to see what everyone believes then.

The existence of a contract does not make it valid. There are many legal excuses for non-performance.

Theres actually a whole lot more to each side than you seem to be acknowledging.

Unless I've missed it, I haven't seen this posted yet. NY Post is reporting the Coyotes are moving to Vegas in 16-17.

http://nypost.com/2015/06/30/arizona...der-new-owner/

Quote:
Sin City is getting hockey, two sources close to the situation told The Post.
The NHL is arranging the sale of the Arizona Coyotes to billionaire William Foley who will move the team to Las Vegas giving it its first major professional franchise, one source said.
“Las Vegas has reached 10,000 season ticket deposits,” enough to justify a franchise, the other source said.
Foley said in January that he needed 10,000 ticket deposits to get an NHL team.
Foley will move them for the 2016-17 season, the source said. The Post last year was the first to report Foley was backing a Vegas franchise.

Wow NY Post eh?

All along I been saying move them to Vegas, and everyone said it would never happen because Vegas will be expansion "for sure".

Yeah, Bettman and LeBlanc both denied it but what are they supposed to say? I'm not saying the Post is right but they could be.

It's really awkward that they want to charge expansion fees when they might relocate struggling franchise(s) in the coming years for free.

Article makes no sense. NHL would have to be stupid to move a team instead of expanding. Unless the Coyotes being in AZ would cost the NHL ~$300MM over the next few years for relocation to be a better option than expansion.

There'll be a relocation fee if they move.

I can't see how Arizona could ever actually try and build a fan base when this keeps happening. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy that the team will relocate.

If IA wins then the lease is reimposed what damages are there left? In contrast if Glendale wins then they can argue for the return of the subsidies that they paid. That's a big carrot that Glendale can use to negotiate an settlement and exit.

IA has claimed that the uncertainty Glendale's actions have created has directly impacted season ticket sales, advertising, sponsorships, etc. And, of course, direct legal costs.

From Glendale's position, I have a hard time believing they could successfully force the team to repay for services already rendered. I'm sure they can try, but the end result of that is the team just says 'no' and leaves Glendale with an empty arena. That's the big stick the Coyotes hold.
