I don't get that either. Lateral move at best.

Our Jessica Fletcher

So they ship out the 1 forward of theirs who showed passion and defensive reliability, for a winger who was singled out by his coach at season's end for having a horrible year, with Tippett adding "we need more out of him. He needs to have a better offseason"... So in other words, he was lazy and out of shape.
Oilers.

Whaaaaat ???
Hmmmmmm, very questionable move IMO.
Gordon was a faceoff ace with a lot of character.
There must be another move in the pipeline that will explain this trade but in a vacuum, I don't understand or like this transaction from a Oiler fan perspective.
Good move for Arizona.

It makes sense if the Oilers think of the Coyotes as a threat to their attempt at Auston Matthews.

A few weeks ago I thought Chia was a pretty nice move for the Oil. Fast forward to today.......not so much. I guess we'll see what he does for the rest of the summer, but so far I've been unimpressed and surprised. Maybe my expectations of him were too high.

Thought for sure he's trade the 16th pick for an actual and capable veteran defender, not for more of what the Oilers already have.

Norm!

Guess they're going to put Draisatl in that third line center spot even though his skating isn't NHL quality yet.
Other then that this is a pretty bad move. Basically Chia, outside of the easy move drafting first overall is making a lot of moves that don't seem to be good or are highly risky.
Like I said, their bottom 6 was poo last year, Boyd was the closest thing to decent for them and they traded him for a underwhelming winger.
Maybe Chia is another version of Tambellini.

Talbot is going to take his obligatory 6x6, nobody who is that late into their careers turns down that kind of cash.

That has Eric Fehr written all over it.

I would not be surprised if Gordon requested a trade. He seemed very disgruntled last year - one of the few Oilers who gave a .
I would have thought the return would be better for a serviceable 3/4 line centre with good face off stats and some jam in his game.

IIRC, didn't Gordon turn down a bigger offer from Edmonton and instead, signed (or re-signed - can't remember) in Nashville? Felt bad when he got traded there.
Goes and works his butt off - one of the few (if perhaps the only) players to do so, and just when things are looking a bit more positive (relatively speaking), they ship him off to another team that looks to do worse in the standings. Poor guy.

Korpikoski reminds me of all those 1st round trades that Calgary usually came out worse for.
in this case trading down a few spots with Rangers (who took highly rated Korpikoski) and we took Chucko.
others I recall; Saprykin instead of Lundmark.
Trade up to take Trevor Kidd so New Jersey takes Brodeur later.
GMs like Cliff Fletcher did this to justify their salary and take credit for random successes.
There have been many over years.. that contributed to that worst 1st round "next two picks" rating done by Bingo recently.
