Fantastic signing by Treliving!

First the ridiculous trade without giving anything significant (except the 1st rounder) and then signing Hamilton to under a 6M cap it. Wizardry.

This also gives me hope that Gio's next contract will be something in the 7-7.5M range and not 9M.

That # and term works quite well.

I wonder how many Stanley cups the Flames are going to win over the duration of his contract. With how well the Flames are situated, I could see that number being greater than 1.

And we still have over 12 million dollars in cap space.

And we have a farm team that's absolutely stacked.

And we have a whole host of top tier prospects that are in developmental leagues still.

And we have a large amount of veterans that can be shipped out to acquire additional draft picks like the Glencross deal.

Awesome.

Great signing!

Have to remember the numbers being talked about in Boston were preliminary negotiation numbers. I don't know if the Bruins just gave up after that or what, but don't care anymore. Getting this done for under 6 mil per is huge.

As others have mentioned, if Hamilton has another strong season this also helps sets a bar for Monahan and Gaudreau when their contracts come up.

Very happy with Treliving and the management team right now.

I'm as excited about the flames future as anyone, but let's maybe tone it down with these kind of expectations. Seems so "Edmonton" to me. A lot needs to go right in order to win the Stanley Cup

The salt coming out of Boston is on an epic scale. You can see why the media/team trashes players when they leave town, because those chowderheads take that bait right into the gills.

Had a good chat with Hartley.
Gio, Brodie, Wotherspoon all called Hamilton once the trade was done.
Wotherspoon ought to be choked. He was already having a hard time making the team!

I am only looking at the 2009 Chicago Blackhawks as a comparable team, and we have most of the pieces in place for a real cup run this year. The Flames would need only a 2nd line RW and we're off to the races. That doesn't mean it'll be easy, but it isn't an unlikely thought.

Disappointed that Dubnyk is off the table, but there should still be some options available in net as well.
Not sold on Dubnyk at all, Ortio might just be better, career wise.

Also, Edmonton is based of fantasies with no basis in reality. Calgary does have a legitimate shot at being a cup calibre team this year.

A playoff run with Gio and Hamilton instead of Schlemko and Random #7-8 guy will make it all the more likely that the Flames could beat the Ducks or any other team.

No, I agree and I am also optimistic as well. I really love what the Flames have done in the past 2 years, it's just seems early to start asking "how many cups" when the franchise has only ever won 1 (2)

Either Ortio needs to shine or we need a better goalie for this to be likely. This playoff showed that you can win with OK goaltending, but even then I dont think Hiller is nearly good enough. God I wish wed traded him and signed Ramo

I'm as excited as the next guy, but all this talk of winning the Cup is a bit much. Baby steps. We've got a great core in place now, but let's become a perennial playoff contender first otherwise we'll start to sound like Leaf fans.

I think we're in tough to make the playoffs this year, but I also believe we can do it.

That's about as far into the future I'm comfortable crystal balling...

Yeah they're pissed haha. The most common response seems to be they think he's soft. I'll freely admit to watching exactly 0 seconds of Dougie Hamilton play ever and I'm not sure how to judge from TV if someone is soft or not. But from hearing him talk it sounds like he's a quiet thoughtful guy, maybe that didn't go over in a room generally filled with louts like Lucic and Marchand. Anyways, color me excited, my boy Treliving came through in a big way.

Also, I agree with putting an end to the LeBron esque not 1, not 2, not 3 talk. Let's just enjoy the offseason and remain optimisitc but also recognize we are rebuilding, and its completely within the realm of possibility we miss the playoffs next year.

Perhaps, but at the moment there is no evidence to support that assertion.
