Well if the stories about him being the one of the only young single guys on the team are true than yeah it kinda would...
What good is that money if you have no friends living in the same city?
I'd want to get out too.

Didn't Petry just sign a six year deal for $5.5 million AAV? Incredible how much better this Hamilton deals looks compared to that!
And if Hamilton continues to develop as he is expected to - how sweet will this deal look in 2-3 years time!

Gio will be 32 when that contract starts, 39 when it ends, we can't have a guy that age with that big of a cap hit. If Gio wants a 7 year deal the numbers better start falling after year 2, and by good amounts.

Hopefully the year and money trends are opposite.
4 years at $6.85 is so much better.

It's not that big of a cap hit.
8 years ago the cap was 50.3M
If it keeps rising at roughly the same rate, in 7-8 years the cap should be around 100 million.
6.85M is not really a huge percentage of that... it's comparable to a 4.9M cap hit right now... which is less than Wideman makes as basically a #4D(and probably #5 next year). At worst, Gio retires and we take some tiny recapture penalty that should be even smaller. Ideally Gio is still a productive Top 4 Dman, and by then that'll probably be #4 Dman money anyways. And if Gio is really the freak of nature he can be, he's still in Norris conversation then, like Lidstrom was at that age.

you know things are dire for your team when your counter is Zac Rinaldo.
Looks good on them.

Wow.... I don't even know what to say. Treliving is blowing away all expectations. 2 weeks ago you would have been laughed at for suggesting this is possible.

Team should and do negotiate on what the cap is, and not in hopes the cap will rise 7 years down the line. The Flames have talented young players on the roster and talented young players coming up through the system, everyone million counts.
