5.75M here vs 5.5M in Boston - Great work Treliving!
two factors to consider why he was asking for much more in Boston
 1. Boston vs Calgary - one team is falling, the other rising - asking for more meant he could be traded to a favourable situation for a run at the cup during this 6 year deal
 2. More money in his pocket in Calgary due to Alberta vs Massachusetts taxation rates

More #1 and than #2, but still - awesome deal. Says to me that Giordano is coming in around 7.5-8.5 based on how he would scale (30-50% more)

Sweeney should have said eff you im signing any offer sheet that comes and then trading your ass to Siberia for a better return. Sweeney took the honorable route

Who's the bad guy now? I do wish to speculate on why exactly Hamilton did not want to play here but as far as I'm concerned, a 22 year old doesnt know **** and has no business making demands...but it's the world we live in. Young people want to constantly be praised and rewarded for their "hard efforts"...wouldn't have guessed that mentality would creep into hockey. Shame

What was the cap when Phaneuf signed his extension? Something like 50 million give or take. Essentially this equates to being able to sign Phaneuf back in 2008 to a deal worth about 4 million per year.
So yeah, this is an excellent contract. Suck it Colorado...suck it Edmonton.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDregerBruins made offers on 4-5-6 year terms. Best offer to Hamilton was 6 years at $5.5 average. Obviously both sides believed change was best.

So Boston trades him for peanuts over $250k a year and their old school mentality.
