Or she was just not 100% and playing through an injury that might have had her withdraw from a lesser tournament.

Or she's now 4-12 since the Aussie Open and couldn't win a challenger event right now if she wanted to. Everyone figured out her game and she hasn't changed it even slightly, and now she has negative confidence out there. The injury card is weak and pretty much no one on tour right now is playing at 100%. She has some serious soul searching to do right now, especially since she doesn't need tennis to become rich and famous. It'll be about how badly she wants to be great rather than Genie Kournikova.

For sure she does. I'm just thinking it's premature to write her off completely. But I could be way off.

I mean Vika Azarenka has two majors, and since falling out of the top 20 with injuries she's struggled to get in the top 20 again. Azarenka also has a much better game than Genie who is very one dimensional. I'd honestly like to see Genie take the rest of the year off and focus on remodelling her game. When Plan A doesn't work, she basically cannot beat anybody. She needs more to her game than trying to hit lines and go for winners all match. She basically cannot rally at all.

Genie got a very easy draw here because of her ranking, she got #117 in the world who had to qualify to make the tournament. When she's in the 20's now she's getting Serena or Kvitova or Maria in R3 instead of the QFs or SFs. She's gonna struggle to climb the rankings again.

Good news (??) for Genie is Halep is on her way out too and she has elite game unlike Genie. Halep is a big headcase right now.

Once Bouchard couldn't beat two Romanian no names on her home court in Montreal, she couldn't beat anyone.

She drops to 24 in the rankings, couple more could pass her by the end of the week.

Well Genie says in her presser she has an abdominal tear and was advised not to play at all. If she is truly that injured she needs to step away for a while. Also says she won't change coaches right now.

Vasek gets Fognini next and if he can get through that I think he can make the 4th round considering who else is in that section.

Well it's pretty obvious that Bouchard made a mistake in parting ways with Nick Saviano as whatever she built up working with him is now gone. No confidence, no game, and simply a bad tennis player. I can recall players struggling after hitting it big but Bouchard is getting handled by unranked qualifiers. Even Kournikova maintained a longer stretch of top 20 play.

If you wanna believe the rumour mill, Genie didn't fire Saviano, in fact it was the opposite: he just got tired of her. Apparently she's quite high maintenance and her team (i.e. her mom) is hard to deal with. This is why in the long run bottoming out and really crashing fast might benefit her because it might force a reality check on her.

I don't think her career is over yet, primarily because women's tennis is frankly in very bad shape right now. When Maria is the clear #2, and she has no shot of ever beating Serena, there isn't much to the women's game. If she dedicates herself to diversifying her game and builds the confidence back, she can be a good player again.

Injury or not I think she needs to take some time off. Her psyche is getting fried and every time she takes the court and loses again it just compounds it.

Take some time off, clear your head and come back a new player. Obviously trying to play through it right now isn't working at all.

The injury at best gets her to R2 where she loses anyway. Her issues are much deeper than just the injury. Her tactical approach to tennis is pretty horrible, without playing a borderline perfect level, she makes far too many errors and gifts way too many easy points to opponents. She has tactical and confidence issues not to mention the lack of weapons and the inability to win without her best, unlike most of the top players. It should be interesting to see how the next 6 months go and will give us an idea of what she wants out of her career.

But we still have Milos who will have to carry the flag. And carry it he will as he just bagels Tommy Haas in the first set in only 18 minutes.

Haas just elevated his game mostly is what happened. But Milos now has a very brutal run from here on out. Kyrgios next, then Dimitrov. Kyrgios has been totally wild with the attitude but when you just watch him play he has the game of a future #1. Difficult, difficult matchup.

Raonic just has to play his game. Krygios and Dimitrov are talented but are headcases.

-----

Cilic and Berankis in a battle! Berankis was also a guy with a lot of potential and fell of the map. Could this be his breakout?
