So did Ramage, though.
I believe Ramage's QO would've been around $720k.

Should be noted Ramage did skate with the big squad as a black ace too.
Nakladal likely took Ramage's spot.

The Iginla trade was never going to be judged on the success of Ben Hanowski. The first round pick was always the main piece of the return. If Hanowski or Agostino become anything it's gravy, and Agostino is progressing well.
Ramage could still sign an AHL deal with the Heat, but guys in his position tend to go looking for a new chance in a new organization (like Acolatse did last year).

Speaking of UFAs, I wonder what happens with Mark Cundari. I do think he's getting squeezed.

Highly doubt he's getting another contract from the Flames.

OT, but I thought this was a really good view of 3 on 3 and guys like Byron

That is a lot of character not being qualified for Stockton. I thought Ramage and Hanowski in particular were the sort of 'high character' guys that teams should keep around for their AHL affiliates. This isn't to say that one (or both) won't be re-signed to an AHL contract, though I would assume they both try their luck on different organizations.
Acolatse I didn't think would get the QO. Ramage was a BIT more of a surprise, but there is suddenly a logjam of defencemen in the organization that will need the development time.
Pumped to see Byron qualified. I 100% agree with AC - he is a great 13th utility forward. He has enough speed, grit, defensive acumen to play on the bottom 6, and really wouldn't be HORRIBLE for a short stretch in the top 6 as an injury filler stop-gap. At least his IQ and speed would allow him not to be dead-weight in the top 6 anyways. This is the new NHL - you don't use a heavyweight as your 13th forward, you use a versatile utility guy like Byron.

I think this is true, but there is also a loophole that allowed Honka to play in the AHL out of the Chl last season so that might apply to Andersson. The Flames might be comfortable with him staying in Barrie as well

Ramage may still sign with the Flames. Byron was not qualified last year and still got a 1 year deal

I'm sad to see ramage go. I would've been fine with it last year but I really thought he improved during the season and played well in the scrimmage. For every mark cundari there is a Josh Jooris...

I remember that and would definitely would have agreed with you (and it may happen - who knows?), but Byron had a higher dollar contract that needed to be qualified. Ramage was apparently only 720K (according to Freeway). Based on that, I find it doubtful the Flames would sign him.
Perhaps Stockton will offer him a contract, but if I am Ramage, Acolatse or Hanowski, I would probably be looking for an NHL contract within another organization first, and if I am not able to, I would be looking to sign with a different AHL squad and hoping to impress enough to parlay that into an NHL contract down the road.
You are right - the Flames/Stockton just may offer one or more of them a contract - but based on at least Ramage's low dollar contract (no idea what Hanowski's is), I doubt it will happen.

Too bad about Ramage but the competition just keeps getting stronger. The Flames prospect pool runs deep compared to when Ramage and Hanowski werd added.
Not surprising about Hanowski poor skating for the NHL level.

I like keeping Byron. He's one hell of a player to beat out for a spot as a prospect.
Now, if he could also continue to develop and score on breakaways, I'd be ecstatic.
Reinhart is a head scratcher for me, but most likely, maybe management thinks they can flip him for a pick or a prospect down the line due to name recognition? (Asset management)

I think Reinhart deserved to be qualified. He had a very good year followed by a relatively poor first half-season (in which he played well, but was snake-bitten - he must have slept with the hockey God's wife in the offseason!). During that stretch, he played well I thought from the games I watched, and what others like Drury and PMM were saying. Started seeing better numbers in the 2nd half.
I personally think Reinhart still has NHL upside, though you have you to figure this may be his make it or break it season with the Flames.
Next season I expect some notable prospects being shipped out, and others that are those 'personal favorites' with legitimate NHL upside not being qualified and sending a few posters off a cliff. That is what happens when an organization builds a strong prospect pool - a few pretty good prospects end up getting pushed out, even though they have NHL upside (and in many cases, go on to have careers in the NHL).

I for one will continue using Hanowski in trade proposals regardless of whether he is with the organization or not.

Even if Reinhart doesn't become an NHL player, he's a pretty good AHL player. We need a few vets down there to show the way and to ice a competitive club.
As for Byron, he's an asset but he's going to need to have a good camp to make this team. If he doesn't, he could clear waivers and be a good call up. Yeah, I know Artley likes him.

What surprises me the most is that people are surprised Paul Byron got qualified.
Do you people watch the Calgary Flames play hockey?
Glad our management and coaching staff know what's up.

I absolutely agree, and he was huge help during 4 on 4s and OT. Just get him a good breakaway coach, because if he starts converting all those chances into goals he would be lethal.
The main thing to be said against him is that he is small, and makes the flames so much less physical after the whistle. On the forward ranks we only have Bollig, and Ferland that can dish out the rough stuff(also, Bouma and Jones to a lesser extant).
It is obviously a weakness, as it was exposed in games like game 3 in the Canucks series. After the score got to 4:1 Flames the Canucks started running our players with 5 min left, Bob's bench got short in a hurry. It also resulted in players like Russel, Colborne, Wideman(game 2), Stajan(Game 2) having to fight. Byron has the heart of a lion but he seems to only magnify that weakness.
