I was having really poor download speeds and they said it was my modem. I'd be getting 2 or 3 Mbps and then I'd reboot the modem and be back up to 100Mbps.

I went it and swapped it and am getting good speeds now again.

JR only made $18M last year, how's he supposed to build a yacht without raising rates a bit?

http://calgaryherald.com/business/en...nsation-survey

$51.6M in compensation between 5 people, no wonder they're jacking the prices.

Crap. After all the research, experimenting, bluster about DVR and antenna and other internet providers, I phoned today to cancel cable and phone, leaving internet only.

I was sent to retentions. And they offered to knock $15 off my current bill, effectively voiding the August increase, and guarantee that rate for 24 months, until June 2017.

I took it. :-( Stupid Shaw taking my money...

I am converting to Telus after too many years with Shaw. Will save close to $1000 first year and will be paying about same monthly for next two years around $150/month.

After my $40 a month discount expired last week, I phoned Shaw and was rounted to retnetion. The woman said I already have discount for the last two years so I will get no more discount. So I cancelled both my phone and TV leaving only internet.

Summer months are slow TV months anyway and maybe I will come back as a new customer in the Fall. Or maybe I will find cord cutting easier to survive that I thought.

I took that package when I moved into my new place in April as well. It's nice that you can go online and switch around your packages whenever you feel like. I dropped the sports package earlier this week and threw on some movie channels. Can switch back easily when the season starts. It was nearly instant as well. No need to wait for the next billing cycle.

And from what I understand, things could be worse. Comcast in the US is apparently the Devil incarnate. Yeah they're cheaper, but sounds like in their case, you pay for (lack of) quality. Or maybe it's the same type of service we get up here, and they're spoiled down there lol.

Yesterday I jumped from Shaw to Telus, and as far as I can tell, I'll be getting more channels (essential channels + 6 theme packs + TV Japan), roughly the same internet (Internet 25), and more hardware (1 HD PVR + 2 HD digital boxes). Telus had a promotion where you can either get a 40" Samsung Smart TV, or promotional pricing for the first 12 months. I chose the promo pricing, which shaved off $73/month, and since I also have Telus mobility I get a further $15 discount for bundleing the 3. Compared to what I would be paying with Shaw, even after I spoke to their retention department, I will be saving $1033.20 in the first year, $340.20 in the second year, and $466.20 in the third year

I work for Telus. If you are wanting to switch give me a shout. I have performance targets for referrals if you want to help a CP longtime member out. THX

I was planning on switching to Telus, but I wanted month to month. $100 installation fee plus a possible $75 addition just to get the service seems very high to me. I dont recall having any fee to get Shaw installed month to month.

I found the Telus TV packages really bad. The base channels have nothing to them.

I really only watch sportsnet and tsn which is included in Shaw's base package. But either way, I just cut cable for the summer and get it back for the 6 month promo in the fall.

I only pay about $60 now for internet 25? and comes out to about $100 during the fall. Comparing to Telus I think it would have been about the same but you're dealing with Telus.... and I had a horrible time with them .

Since when does Telus charge an install fee if you don't go on a contract?

I was ready to sign up and then they told me about this fee and I said forget it.

They can't just shut down the aviation division either, eh? It would be like taking the bus with those execs.

I never thought Shaw would have 3 of the top 10 compensated executives here. Shaw seems pretty top-heavy compared to other companies on that list. If this continues I can see them raising rates again early next year as well

They benevolently promise they won't raise rates until summer 2016.

FTFOA, "...we are committed to keeping these rates for existing customers on current packages at least until summer 2016."
