It's a great problem to have, but I wonder how it plays out
In terms of PP ice time per game average Brodie was actually 4th for the Flames on the backend.

Giordano - 3:10/per game
Wideman - 3:05
Russell - 2:25
Brodie - 2:11

Bruins
Tony Krug - 2:37/per game
Bougie Hamilton - 2:30
Zdeno Chara - 2:05

Hopefully Hamilton can outright replace Russell allowing him to lean back on his minutes to have more energy for 5on5 and PK.

Huh. I thought Brodie got more ice time on the PP. Probably goes way up if Wideman goes.

I wish Brodie could shoot. I rewatched game 6 from the Vancouver series today and it struck me how elite he is offensively, but just telegraphs slow fluttering shots and books it back to his own end. He has amazing sense of when to jump up, the wheels to be the first back even when leading the rush and good sense at either finding open players or puts our where they can get it. He just can't shoot

Sheesh, no one is complaining. It's a good problem to have.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Colborne-Backland-Bennett
Ferland-Stajan-Jones
Bouma-Granlund-Jooris
Bollig

I know some people don't like when Bennett is suggested on the wing...I did it anyway!

I would like to keep both Jooris and Byron in the lineup - I thought we were a much better team with Byron than without. I really liked having that speed on the lower lines. Byron was a frustrating player but I thought even when snakebitten he was really effective. So many bodies, however. I prefer both to Raymond for sure.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bennett - Backlund - Colborne
Ferland - Stajan - Jones
Bouma - Granlund - Jooris
Byron/Bollig

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Wideman
Schlemko - Hamilton
Engelland

We're not putting Hamilton on the 3rd pairing.

I think we will see Hamilton start the year on the third pairing with whomever, with PP duties. I think we run with the established pairings just because they work so well, and will give the team an advantage for the first month or so of the season while other teams are findig their legs/chemistry. I suspect that Wideman and Hamilton will swap spots after a month or so once Hamilton has acclimated to our systems, etc.

But no, I don't think Hamilton was brought in to be a third pairing DMan.

What, you have a problem with a $6-$7 million dollar player playing on the 3rd pairing?

Does anyone see granlund as a fit on the left side? Could end up having a second line of Granlund - Backlund - Jones/Colborne

I believe.

I doubt Granlund becomes a center for Flames in the long run, putting him on the wing makes a lot of sense.

Am I the only one around here that doesn't see much of a future for Granlund? He's a decent all around player, with pretty good instincts, but I personally don't see a full time NHLer in him on a good team. He could be a good 3rd line center if he was bigger and good at face-offs...I dunno he's never really impressed me really in any way. Plus with Monny-Bennett-Backlund long term...I guess like some are suggesting he could slide to wing, but he wouldn't really be effective in bottom six IMO? And doesn't have the upside for top 6. It just seems like he's in no man's land.

He seems to have a lot of support here on CP, I wonder what I'm missing (and I'm fully willing to admit I could be missing something!).

Gaudreau - Monahan - Shore/UFA/Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Colborne
Ferland - Bennett - Jones
Byron - Stajan - Jooris/Shore
Bollig, Granlund/Jorris*

* in the case where we keep Hudler or sign a UFA, pushing Shore to a different line and Jooris into the press box

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Hamilton
Diaz- Engelland
Schlemko

Ortio
Hiller

Granlund has offensive skill, his shot release is lightning quick with very high accuracy from anywhere. In many ways, I see him developing into a Jiri Hudler type winger. The biggest thing is getting Granlund over to the wing, or him improving his faceoffs by about 10-11 percent if they're gonna keep trying him at centre.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Jones
Agostino - Bennett - Colborne
Ferland - Stajan - Jooris
ex. Shore, Bollig

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Hamilton
Wotherspoon - Wideman
ex. Engelland
LTIR - Smid

Hiller
Ortio

Agostino makes the team after a phenomenal camp. Granlund and Raymond are traded to Arizona for a 2nd round pick.

During the season, Poirier comes up when Jones is injured and takes over his spot.

I would love it if Nakladal or Morrison could beat Engelland out for a spot as the third pairing right side Dman.

Both guys are good skaters, and can move the puck but still have decent size. Would be much better as I really can't stand Dmen who are slow and can't get the puck up ice.

Giordano - Wideman
TJ Brodie - Hamilton
K Russell - Nakladal or Morrison

What a puck moving D core that could be with Russell the only small guy and Wideman the only slower one.

Of course, then we'd have $6.5 million for two more seasons tied up in our 7th and 8th Dmen.

With all the speculation of our bottom pairing being Wideman - Engelland, do we want to have two RH shots play together?

^I definitely wouldn't do that, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Would make way more sense to have Russell and Engelland. Russell has more speed and can move the puck. Wideman's offense should be maximized with his partner and the forwards he goes on the ice with.

But I don't really care if he plays with another RH shot. If we keep Gio-Brodie, there are four guys left and 3 shoot right. One pairing will have to be RH-RH
