Every time I see that ring, I think how cool it'd be if a holographic image of the city skyline was projected within the ring. Probably thinking too far into the future though...

Now that this foot bridge is opened, I find it puzzling as to who the targeted users are. People don't usually go to Northland mall or the Dalhousie mall without cars so who are this bridge built for?

I think it's for those in the surrounding area who do walk to those shopping centres. I've seen so many people run across Shaganappi trail. Just about every single time I drive by that area I see people running across it.

I don't know if you're being intentionally obtuse or just don't know but it has been a dangerous area for pedestrians and drivers for a while.

And I'm betting there will still be a good amount of people running across because the bridge has no stairs and it would take 3x as long to cross

Usually when a pedestrian bridge like this one goes up a fence will go up along with it along the offending stretch. This is no different then further south along Shagannapi the length of Market Mall. That one also has no stairs.

really? I do know the area quite well. yes it was unsafe because the occasional idiot pedestrian would run across at unsafe times, the far better solution would be to put a fence on the median to stop that. there are intersections with a full set of crosswalks about 250m north and 250m south of that bridge. Is that the new rule now? need a bridge or crosswalk every 250m across all roads.

Also, I believe the plan for Northland is to bulldoze parts of it and put up condo towers along with an outdoor shopping format like Deerfoot Mall is doing. If that happens this bridge will get major use.

When darklord says they suggest she/he doesn't know who it was designed for I'd say they're being intentionally obtuse, yes. Lots of people go the two locations without cars and it's been a nasty spot for pedestrians running across for years now.
We never blink an eye at car overpass and interchange costs in this city, 65 million for the new diamond one. Is 6 million for a pedestrian project that bad? It continually shocks me these things even get more then a passing comment.

well I would refer you to the rest of my comment. there are places to cross very nearby. seems like a complete waste. it's not obtuse to think the bridge was a dumb idea.
