Shouldn't be surprising. Not every team is dumb enough to overpay for largely unproven backups. Vancouver was just too late to the party.

They should have kept Lack and dumped Markstrom, however.

Ahahaha this is too good.

#LegendofLack gets traded for pretty much nothing and now the Canucks are one injury, from 34 year old Ryan Miller, away from a blow out of a season.

Quote me on this when I say Ryan Miller will sustain a 3 month injury in December of 2015 and finish bottom 5 by next year's draft.

Linden just said they wanted to get younger...so you trade Lack and keep Miller?

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Just a thought - but with Lack in Carolina, do the Canes look to dump Ward?

Could be worth a shot in hopes he can regain his form behind a better defence in a new city.

The Canucks are a Ryan Miller injury away from a goaltending tandem of Markstrom and Cannata...

Cam Ward's Conn Smythe run came with him playing in a tandem with Gerber. That might be their plan.

With Hanifin able to contribute very quickly, Lack being a strong goaltender, and maybe a free agent signing (Sekera returns?) the Canes could be one of the surprise teams in the East next year.

I thought Lack was worth at least a 2nd.

If this was the price, and the Flames were looking for a goalie, this was a price worth paying. That said, I'm sure the canucks had no interest in trading him to a rival. Not to mention that the Flames had no 3rds after moving up, and I'm happier to have Kylington than Lack.

It's so fantastic to watch the Canucks do what they've been doing the last couple of years.

Linden and Benning both interviewed by the Fan960, and both very much on the defensive regarding the Lack trade. Linden blamed the poor return on it being what the market would bear, while Benning suggested that GMs in the east don't always know the proper value of players in the west. (C'mon, really Benning?)

Benning in particular is not the most eloquent of GMs. When talking about one of their picks he noted "He has to get bigger, and stuff....". Just a very poor interview overall.

The Canucks are going to be a bad team for a while. Not that Lack would've changed that significantly, but I thought he was probably their best bet as a goalie moving forward.

Jim Hughson doing ok right now?

Honestly, I think this was a good trade for the Canucks. Lack crumbled under the pressure of the C of Red, and it's never a good thing to have a goalie that can't elevate their game. They would be better if they didn't have Miller and acquired a different young goalie, but what can you do. Hopefully (for them) Markstrom can do something for them this year, otherwise they'll have to go back to the drawing board.

Also, Demko is likely not going to be the saviour and the Canucks will need another couple in the pipeline soon. That's why the Flames got all three of MacDonald, Gillies and Ortio. You need 3 or 4 good prospects in hopes that one can become something good. Having only 1 is too big a risk.

Disagree, their team cracked under pressure, not Lack. Flames were crashing and banging. Playing close to/in the crease every chance they got and nothing was done about it. He's a starting goaltender, I'm glad they chose Miller over him.

they were all completely dumbfounded as to what their team was doing at the draft - it was awesome! such a fun conversatoin to have
