I still have no idea what the point of this trade was for the Oil. They need as many d-men as they can get. Why ship them out?

I thought Chia would turn this club around quickly, but what he showed me over the weekend made me doubt that entirely. Some average or poor moves on his part. Talbot was pretty good, Reinhart was 'meh', this one was terrible. Besides fluking out and drafting McDavid that team sure like it's moving laterally at best.

The Reinhart trade would end up being pretty terrible. He's far from a sure thing IMO.

I guess Marincin would have been waiver-eligible, and maybe Chiarelli was afraid of losing him for nothing on waivers if he didn't make the team?

But then he goes out and trades him for next to nothing.

Head-scratcher any way you look at it.

Yeah, he definitely needs to prove himself. Not developing like I thought he would at all. Looks like the Islanders just drafted him way, way too high. That trade looks like a beauty for the Isles. Barzal and Beauvillier? That could be a major steal for them.

I remember hearing an interview with Max Reinhart on the Fan back when he was drafted. He gave his dad a lot of credit for helping him prepare to be a pro athlete. Makes me wonder if all three of the Reinhart brothers just peaked early – if they did all the right things to develop their talent before being drafted, but there wasn't really a huge amount of talent there.

Oilers did not qualify Brad Ross, which means he was a throw in for probably contract number reasons.

Gryba is not next to nothing.

Chia did need to add NHL d and he did. Marincin is not a sure thing whereas Gryba has a body of work.

Not a game changer but at the same time, not a loss for the oil.

I really don't get it.

Toronto could have just not qualified him. Unless the Leafs were at 50 contracts, but that seems not possible considering they trade guys away at the deadline and didn't replace them.

Can't recall but they signed some college UFAs after the deadline didn't they? Also got prospects back in some of their deals.

That could be it. We need a cap site with a 50 man list.

I wonder if the Oil would be interested in Max too.

Sure could but I think it's a move the Oil needed to make.

Needed to add players that can help the roster now. Might not work out but after being a bridesmaid on Hamilton I think they really wanted a young d-man aged 21/22.

Even with Peter Chi, I still have no idea WTF the Oilers are doing...
