ATTN: Calgary & Area Mitsubishi Eclipse Owners
If you, or anyone you know, owns a 4G Mitsubishi Eclipse, please be advised a small group is currently planning a get-together. If you own one you are more than welcome to join us and if you know someone who does, please let them know about this.
We want as many in one spot at one time as we can get. It doesn't have to be 4G but right now that's all we have. Unfortunately we only have about a half-dozen lined up at the moment so it's not going to have the desired effect unless we get some more participants! Let's go Calgary, time for a Lunar Eclipse!
Plans for the meet are as follows:
Date: Saturday, August 26th
Time: 6pm
Location: Chinook Mall
Mini-Cruise: Chinook to Mcleod Trail to 17th Ave to Crowchild Tr North to Cochrane and then back into town and go our seperate ways.
EDIT: note the time has changed for the get-together, the day is still the same.

Hey Eddie,
Just curious (I don't own one...heck I don't own any car). This is a naive question, so please forgive me: but is this just a "get together" of people who share the same/similar car? I.e. in the same type of way that people might get together because of a hockey game (i.e. a similar interest type of thing)?
Like I said, just curious I guess.
Cheers.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I never really got the idea of doing something like this.
What exactly is the point of getting half a dozen eclipse owners together to go for a drive around town?
Sure it might be a good way to meet people, but I can probably think of a few better ways to meet people with more similar interests than "Hey we bought the same car".

I guess you don't love your car then
Really, I believe the root of all this is the animal instinct to be part of a pack and in this day and age of social isolation and anomie, you got to group around something. Why not cars or bikes? Why form clubs are all? Heck why are we on Calgarypuck just because "Hey, we are fans of the same team?" It's called having a shared interest and enthusiasm. What are your better ways of meeting people? Throwing them all in a bar with nothing to talk about? Why do people often invariably talk about sports in a bar? Because they want something similar that they are enthusiastic about that they know they can talk about.
By your same logic, being a hockey fan is a stupid thing because this is just the same phenomenon.
I'll let my friend know about this Eclipse get together.

See I'd say that being a fan of the same team is a lot different than getting together because you have the same car.
You've seen the depth of conversation that arises from everyone's interest in the Flames right?
What do you talk about when you all have the same car?
"So you got the blue one eh?"
"Yup?"
"Yeah, I got the red one, no big deal."
Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of people like to talk about cars (I do from time time time), but I really don't get why people assuem they are gonna get along and have a great old time because they all drive the same model of car.
I'm also wondering what the "Desired effect" is that they are trying to create. Is seeing a dozen Eclipses really gonna blow anyone's mind? How will you know? Do you plan to hand out questionaires, or are you just gonna assume that everyone who sees the pack of Mitsubishi's is gonna be impressed? And why do you care if a bunch of strangers think to themselves "Wow, that sure was half a dozen Eclipses"?
For instance, me and a bunch of buddies regularily go for rides (we have a wide range of motorcycles), but the only desired effect we ever go for is to have a good time and enjoy the ride, but I can do that with 1 or 10 friends, and whether we're all riding Hondas, Kawasakis, Cruisers, Sportbikes, or choppers has absolutely no bearing on how much I enjoy it.

Why does it have to be a different effect than you and your buddies going for a ride? And why do they only have to talk about their cars? Do you and your buddies only talk about you bikes when you get together? Probably not.
It's just a social gathering with people who have similar interests.
It's just a different way of networking. So they all have interest in the same type of car. Not a big deal, but it is something they all have in common.

What's the desired effect of a bunch of people going out on 17th Ave all wearing Flames jerseys? It's the same as a bunch of people all with the same car or all with Harley's or whatever. The idea is that these people all love their car and they want to display that love to other people to attract others to it. It's the exact same thing as professing fandom for a hockey team and displaying that publically.
The depth of conversation about a car can be just as deep and quite possibly more interesting and more personal than anything about a hockey team IMHO.
Question, what do you drive? Most cars are totally boring and don't inspire any passion. If you drive something a little more eccentric or a little more exciting (I'm not a personally a fan of the Eclipse BTW, I think the newer models are uglier), you might feel a little more passion for it and feel the camraderie of being around people that share the same interests.
Wouldn't you assume that Flames fans would get along together to some degree just because they are Flames fans? Why fans of a team usually gather when they meet at opponents arenas?

I guess you could say that. Everyone who is going might be going for a different reason. The only one I can speak for is myself. I have a brand new car and would love to see what others are doing to theirs. Performance mods, body kits, etc. You can look at pictures of that stuff all you want, but seeing it in person gives you a different perspective.
Also good to know some people who have this car and have experience dealing with it so when/if I encounter problems, I know who to ask.
The other reason I'm going is just because I think it will be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing as many of this car in one spot as I can. Now I know some of you may say, just go to the dealership. Sorry, that's different. I'm going to take some photos and I think it will look cool. But maybe that's just me.

DO NOT show this car to my wife.
Are you going to store it for the winter?
