Wild sign Dubnyk (6yrs, $4.16mil AAV)
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Day 2 of Draft. Should be news today. MIN close to getting G Devan Dubnyk signed. Not "done" yet but close. Likely 6 yr deal, AAV of $4M+.

crazy to me, he wasn't just bad with the Oilers, he was bad in the AHL
there's tons of goalies who have gone on great 4 month runs and then returned to being terrible

if 4mill AAV is all it takes, I don't mind that signing by the Wild. I had hoped to see Dubnyk test the market, and 6 years is a couple years too long, but I'd be OK with this.

That's a great cap hit for a vezina finalist. Too long a term, I suppose.

6 years could come back to bite them. Even if he was interested in coming home to Calgary, I can't imagine Treliving would have given him that term.

A lot about confidence, he got his back. He had one awful year and couple ok seasons prior to that.
He was sensational in Minny. Who know what they're getting. Term is long but the cap hit is ok even if he 75-80% of what he was last year.

ya the cap I don't mind, I think it's the only saving grace, the issue is the term for me

Dubnyuk was a coveted player. Fair deal I'd say.
Could end up being a great deal for the Wild, and the cap hit isn't THAT risky.

Liut started by wanting an 8-year deal. #mnwild wanted 4. Per @TSNBobMcKenzie, sounds like they're meeting in the middle

At least it's not terrible like Mike Smith's. Still, 6 years would make me leery.

Great deal for the Wild. Other Vezina candidates are 10M dollar men.
That said, I'm not sold on him yet... But I can understand if they are

I mean, that could backfire, but hopefully it doesn't if only because lol oilers.

I don't see it backfiring on them. They've probably got the best long term goalie contract in the league in terms of cap hit vs production. I can only hope if Ortio succeeds for us this is the kind of extention he gets.

4 million is a great amount for a #1 goalie. Good signing.

That seems cheap to me. I was hoping he would make it to July 1 and the Flames would get him.

That's a fair amount for him and with Lack fetching only a 3rd round pick it's becoming clear the goaltender market is much cooler than the rumours of the past few weeks would have you believe.

Good deal and I'm sure Dubnyk is happy to have some stability for once. Never did think he was the problem in Edmonton.
