Sure they got the wiz kid but their team is still a mess from the back end out.
Honestly I doubt there's any team right now that would do the Oilers any favours as 29 GM's probably were pretty ticked off when they won the lottery. I imagine the Oilers probably have to be better on any offer they make to teams as why send your asset to them if another team is offering as good a package.
|
Yep, I think it's going to be a pretty frustrating summer for Chiarelli after tonight. He better hope the allure of McDavid overpowers the stink of Edmonton and he can land a decent UFA or five.

Man, one of the biggest boxes we needed to check off for the young core, was a big right handed PMD with #1 potential.
I can't believe Treliving ticked that box off today without giving up any of our top prospects or young core.
Awesome.
I was so disappointed when we missed out on Myers, this makes it all better.

If you trust nice blue bar graphics, Dougie Hamilton is a top pairing and perhaps #1 defenseman.

PMD? I'm not familiar with this acronym.

first instinct was great trade, but after 20 minutes of thinking about it I've changed my mind to Home run. Too bad I can't change my vote.

It's the home-runniest of the home runs.

I'd like to think that the Bruins took the Flames (/rivals of the Oilers) offer (sounds as if Treliving had been talking to Boston for a while) in part due to that.
I just find it hard to believe that a team, other then the Oilers, wouldn't have given up more than what the Flames did for Hamilton, so there has to be some back story....if it's simply out of spite to Chirelli, yes, thank you Sweeney!
|
Wonder if Boston felt as if Chirelli wasn't dealing in good faith and by not offering Nurse in return only pissed Boston off more. To top it off I am sure there are a lot of GM's who don't take too kindly to Edmonton.

Yeap, PMD = puck moving defenseman.
So valuable in today's NHL and we currently have 5 of them on our NHL team who range from elite to above average IMO.

I don't think Brian Campbell was ever a frontrunner to win the Norris.
Gio still has some elite level hockey left in him folks...

He's ours for sure. As for signing him before July 1, it shouldn't be a problem because both him and his agent like Calgary and we can afford to pay him long term. I believe his request was something like 5.5 over decent term, which is easily done.

Anytime you can acquire a young d man with size and puck handling abilities you have to make this deal. Treliving deserves a lot of credit for pushing for a deal like this.
