If that's the asking price for Lucic, what is Jones worth? Hell, Hudler must be worth a top five pick or something...

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
The Bruins retained close to half of Lucic's cap hit/salary in order to make trade work with the cap-strung Kings

Jesus.
All kinds of bad from Boston today. Trading their young core players and keeping Chara, Krecji, ... McQuaid FFS?
This just doesn't make sense. Even if they're trading up in the draft with these picks, none of those players will replace what they've lost today plus what they will lose in the near future by trading away their younger assets.

I think it is more likely the Bruins flip Jones.

I'll take Rask off their hands. Judging from today's trades.... 2016 1st and 2nd.

Makes sense... Chara's knees are shot and he'll never be that playoff monster they need to win another Cup, but he's still a productive player and top-shelf leader that could take them through a short rebuild.

I say you get the same leadership from Bergeron. They should have traded Chara today.

Would be very hard to move Chara or Rask. Both have full NTC/NMC clauses right now.

Agreed. They shouldn't be moving Rask. But Chara and Krejci, yeah probably.
NMC is a factor for sure, but I'm sure they could have gotten something decent from a team needed a guy like him to push over the edge. I dunno. This whole day seems weird from Boston's perspective. It looks backwards to me. It'd be like if we traded Brodie so we could afford to hold onto Iginla.

So after we all spend years talking about the McDavid draft, the Bruins go out and render it an afterthought.

Would be a tough day as a Bruins fan. A rebuild is one thing, but trading the players who should be the core of that rebuild?
They're basically committing to a very long long long rebuild and not even trying for a 2-4 year turnaround.

This move makes a lot more sense for the Bruins and to be honest I'm pretty shocked Lucic could fetch that return. As for the Kings I don't like it at all as this is a go for broke move and IMO Lucic is too much of the same type of player they already have in that he's big, physical getting out of his prime, and not fleet of foot.

Chara is most definitely their captain. He means to them what Gio does to us... you don't get that same leadership from anyone, not even a better player on the ice.
Trading Chara would not be easy, we're talking about a 38 year old with an NMC who's signed until he's 41 @ 7M a year. THey could retain 50% but even then who's going to give up that much asset for a 38 year old?

In Sweeney's defense, he picked the right draft to collect a bunch of first round picks.

Not sure that trade makes LA that much better today. I don't mind Lucic, but he's not the fastest guy in the league. Looking forward to seeing Ferland and Lucic lock horns a few times this season, though.
Really no idea what Sweeney and Boston are doing today. Just make a bunch of deals and see what you get when the dust settles? Could be in for a long re-build there.

There's also been a rumour that Lucic has a wrist problem that is concerning. I have no idea if this is true.
