I have to keep repeating this, but I'm not a very good contributing poster, if I didn't say anything stupid I would have like 30 posts over the last 9 years.
So the chuckling "BS" gif is because you think he's a great poster and contributes constantly?
It's an odd response to a self deprecating joke.

Are CPers optimistic that an arena deal that hasn't been done yet is going to get finalized now?
Alberta economy slowdown, oil around $60, Canadian dollar around $0.80, NDP provincial government, Nenshi as Calgary mayor, provincial unemployment rate hasn't settled yet.
On the other hand, labour and other building costs should be better than if you started building this 5 years ago.
Do you see this thing getting done at any point during the next four years that coincide with the NDP governments term? I doubt we see a rebound to $100/bbl oil in that time. Even Murray Edwards and the ownership group must be poorer today than they were a few years ago. If they wouldn't pony up private money then, do you think they'll do so now?
I see the clock being reset on any potential new building for the Flames. Five years for serious talks, a few more for ground breaking, and 10 years until its open.

I really don't see why the change to the NDP government should matter. What are the Flames asking from them that the PCs were willing to give them?
The only concern would be if Murray Edwards would balk at paying for a new arena if there is a chance he'll no longer be in the 3 comma club because of the oil business being in the dumps.

lolwut. That's the only concern?
Murray losing 1/2 of his net worth, so he's no longer a billionaire?
The NDP's policies having a negative effect on the economy and personal wealth of ownership is a reasonable hypothesis, but on the political front, I do find it a little funny that some assume that the PCs were more likely to have some sort of stadium deal done with the Flames...but now that the NDP is here, it's less likely.
At the end of the day, the Flames don't need a "deal" unless it means they are getting something from the Public (because if they are funding it all themselves they don't need to involve the provincial government, all they need to do is submit a development permit like every one else). So basically, some people assumed/hoped the right-wing "fiscally conservative" government was going to spend millions of public dollars to subsidize a private project... but the NDP, who people mock for being money-wasting commies, are going to keep their wallet's tight.
Shouldn't that be backwards? Shouldn't fiscal conservatives be the ones who say no to subsidizing things? What does it say about PC party values if they did have a deal in place to help out billionaires during an economic downturn?
When it comes to the politics of it all, there are really only two scenarios here one can assume:
Scenario A:
If still in power, the PC's wouldn't have given any public funding to the Flames because it went against their values. On the other hand, we now have a party in power who has a reputation of spending public money. So one would thus assume that the NDP are more likely to fund a stadium.
Scenario B:
By getting involved and subsidizing a privately owned enterprise with public funds, the PC's would have proven to be crappy fiscal conservatives. And in turn, if the NDP says no to public funds, they on paper are more conservative than the Conservatives.
You can't rail against the NDP for being a party that wastes money and raises taxes, and at the same time blame them for saying no to a subsidy.

^^ I'm sure the (incorrect) line of thinking is that the NDP is full of hipsters who don't like sports so that means no arena. Never mind that the PCs didn't chip in a cent for the one in Edmonton.
Still waiting for that announcment in "a few weeks" KK. Seriously, what does this guy do on a day-to-day basis?
All talk and no action. King needs a lesson in public relations and learning to keep his mouth shut. He went off spewing his verbal diahrea about announcing the arena and now looks like an idiot. At the end of the day the Flames owe nothing to no one, but it does paint them as rather insincere and bush league. King is like a kid who has a huge secret, tells everyone he has one, but won't actually tell it. Pretty childish.

Well, it's been about ten years in talks now. Eh, maybe seven. Still. It all depends on the owners now I think, and I'm willing to give them the time to do it right.
As far as the province goes, they're in over a barrel anyway, cause Edmonton got theirs. No way do they back out of a project with Calgary now. Especially, since from everything we've heard, it'll be more government/taxpayer friendly than Katz bending everyone over to build a arena for his legacy of suck.
Don't know what else King is supposed to say when someone asks him specifically for the arena update. Although he did say this is a minimal ask from the government.
