hahaha yeah... this was far and away the most discussed and focused draft I've seen this forum follow. Lots of discussion, lots of possibilities.

I imagine Tod Button and company just tossed papers in the air and cried.

I wonder if the Flames will make a trade to get a first round pick back.

So we still have #53, #76, #83 and some later picks.

What rounds are being done tonight? It would be pretty exciting to package #53 with a veteran or someone who would be replaceable in a year or 2 anyways like Colborne to get back into the 1st round.

That's 8 1st round picks moved, one of them moved twice.

Why do you think so? Particularly given that the numbers show what has happened in respect of literally every other similar prospect?

Scouting is always better than just looking at a player numbers. Numbers never tell the whole story. There's no number for heart, no number for consistently outmuscling everyone on the ice, etc.

But let's play your game for a bit.

Lucic had 9 goals in his draft year in junior and scored 30 in the NHL.
Lawson Crouse had 29 goals in 56 games in his draft year. So it's certainly not inconceivable that he could be a 30 goal scoring power forward based on history is it?

A 30 goal scoring power forward should be a top 10 pick. Those are very valuable players. Sometimes underrated by some fans. There's not many huge, power forward 30 goal wingers out there. I'm sure you can count them on two hands. Name them if you can. Clearly they are a rare and valuable commodity.

Doesn't look like anyone will have to worry about us dealing up to take Crouse. In fact it sounds like we might've wanted to deal up to take Hanifin, Provorov or Werenski maybe. Treliving was a defenseman and I think he's been trying to acquire a big young top pairing guy for a while.

well, I had a hunch the Flames would make a big splash today and I thought it was going to be trading up to nab Carolina's or Arizona's pick.

but i'll gladly take Hamilton.

Not at all inconceivable. It's just a terrible bet. Almost none of the guys who produce like Milan Lucic in junior end up turning into Milan Lucic. And since Lucic, GM's have made a boatload of incredibly stupid decisions chasing "the next Lucic".

Everything else in your post was just bald assertions which basically makes the whole thing a crapshoot.

Makes you question what some managers think of the talent in this draft.

I still half-expect us to be drafting today (Hudler or Wideman)...

Bruins now with 13th, 14th and 15th pick... he was talking with the Oilers earlier... maybe it wasn't for the 16th pick... maybe we'll see something crazy like 13th, 14th, 15th and... Chara for 1st overall?

... just talking out loud about theoretically impossible scenarios, but wow. Imagine if that happened?

Prediction:

ARZ takes the picks from Boston, trades one of them back to CGY for Wideman or something like that.

I think it's just same ol same ol. I'm speaking to the thoughts that 1st round picks = gold talk we've seen.

Indeed. I just can't recall a day quite like this for a long time.

We heard so many rumours last year of Florida trading the 1st overall and nothing ever happened. In fact, so little happened on draft day besides, well, the draft.

Just a very fun couple days for fans.

The only Flames who I see being traded today wouldn't fetch massive returns.

Wideman is probably the best of the bunch.

I just can't see Hudler going anywhere.
