Holy that's steep.
Please Treliving stay far far away from Talbot, please. Unless we are only giving up a 3rd round pick of course.

Sabres fans don't seem very impressed. Of course that's to be expected when they just gave up a 1st round pick on the day of the draft.

Sabres have prospects, what they need is a #1 goalie. Move makes sense if Robyn Lehner can turn out.

Not a huge fan of this from Buffalo's view, they better hope Lehner is the real deal. Could get a pretty solid player at 21.

They probably felt that they have a decent chance at getting a pretty solid player at #2 and getting goalie with potential and a veteran in Legwand to help mentor all the youth was worth losing #21.

Wow not a huge fan of this -- obviously goalie was the number one need on the team but to give up 21st overall for a relatively unproven one? Legwand is an okay veteran but doesn't bring much more to the table than Gionta does right now.
Well, what's done is done. I REALLY hope Lehner turns out to be the real deal. A first round pick...

Tough to figure. Will he be any better than Enroth (or even Neuvirth) from last year? I get that Buffalo can afford to move some picks for immediate help, but this doesn't feel like immediate help.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Aren't they currently below the floor? Why would they buy him out? I mean, this is Buffalo we're talking about... even at his depleted level of play he's got to be better then at least their 14th forward.

The only thing I can figure is they already talked to Dubnyk and Niemi yesterday and neither was interested. Went to the trade market and got the best deal they could find before the deals dried up?

If they really wanted to overpay, the 31st OA would have been more ideal. 21st OA is a steep price for Lehner.

Tim Murray said something like this after firing Nolan (paraphrasing)
"We had a different opinion on some things. I didn't consult with him about player movement and we disagreed on that, but that's the way I do things..."
That's a very rough paraphrase, but the key was Murray thought it was perfectly acceptable to have zero discussions with the coach on player movement....I was floored by that logic. He is most definitely a foolish asshat

So the market for backup goaltenders is a first round pick now? Sheesh. Why not start picking goaltenders every draft to build depth so you can flip them for firsts when they put up decent stats over a small sample size to desperate GM's? Seems like solid way to turn 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks into first round picks.

I think this is an absolutely putrid deal for Buffalo. Couldn't believe it when I saw it.

All the complaining about 1st's for backups is silly.
These kids, Lehner, Talbot, Jones and of course Dubnyk have all shown that they have starter potential and individually have stollen the NHL spotlight at times.
GM's are looking at these guys as backups, they are looking at them as potential franchise goalies who have already somewhat proven themselves in terms of ability. The only question is, can they handle the workload. That takes time.
That said, I don't want the Flames trading 15th overall for a damn goalie.

Hate the Lehner is not a Flame today. Is what it is, Murray family favors and all. How else can you explain giving up #21?
