Hiller wasn't very good. And the guy was backing up Lundquist... not like he was stuck behind Victor Fasth or something.

Two second rounders would be a "disaster" and would be contrary to the game Treliving has been talking. I hope this isn't about to happen.
I would be pretty disappointed

Not sure, but if the rumors of the Flames are true...
Clearly the Flames don't have the confidence in the goalies and believe they need to add.

Ortio doesn't have enough experience to be shouldering such a heavy load for Calgary.
Hiller wasn't good enough last year for Calgary and likely has value of a 3rd round pick.
Move out 2 seconds for Talbot, move Hiller for a 3rd, move another roster player for a package of picks.
Calgary might still ADD draft picks this year.

Hiller was good enough to tandem our way into the playoffs. NYR was also one of the best defensive teams last year. I'm sure Ortio would put up the numbers Talbot did in NYR.

I really don't like how he is a UFA after next season.

If one of the picks was a 2016 I wouldn't be as upset. Still don't see why we need another goalie though

There has to be the belief within Flames management that Talbot is on the brink of breaking out as a high-end #1 goalie. If he does break out and become a high end goalie? Hey, that's a win for us. There is a real risk associated with a move like this though.
Watching highlights of Talbot...there is a lot to like about his game. Athletic, great positioning...

Hiller was very average last season despite being constantly pushed by Ramo all year, and he lost his starters role in the playoffs as well.
Ortio is completely unproven as an NHL starter.
There is also the possibility of Hiller asking to be moved.

So because Ortio doesn't have enough experience to shoulder a heavy load, you trade the experienced goalie and bring in another inexperienced goalie?
I think Talbot would be great but since he's UFA next year and we can't work out a deal until Jan 1 2016, it's a big risk. I really hope we're not the team that overspends on him!

Hopefully Hiller can be moved to San Jose if Calgary gets Talbot.

He might be. And yes.. Hiller was good enough to get us in the playoffs when he could be relieved for long stretches. Not many contending teams don't have a goalie they ride for the season and Hiller isn't that guy (or at least wasn't last year).

They don't have faith in what they have. Hiller was good but we were lucky to have Ramo to take over when Hiller was down. Hiller can play very well but he has too many low games.
They want to ease Ortio into the NHL. Sure he played well in his limited action in the NHL so far but that doesn't mean they can just throw 60+ games his way and expect him to keep it up. They want to develop him so they are looking for somebody who can be the #1 while allowing Ortio a chance to adapt to the NHL game on a regular basis. With Hiller you need Ortio to be ready right now. That is why it was nice to have Ramo, who was ready.
I suspect if Hiller was going to UFA and we had Ramo for one more year then we would be hearing less about the Flames looking for a goalie. The rumors would still be there but only that the Flames may be interested not that the Flames are one of the front runners in all these goalies.

I would be disappointed if the Flames spent picks on a goaltender at this point. I'd wait and see how free agency goes and see what they have when the dust settles. At worst they go into next season with Hiller and Ortio and a mitt full of new draft picks.

Not sure about that. He was the one who signed as a UFA, he wasn't traded there. I'm guessing it has more to do with the Flames thinking Talbot would be an upgrade. And at 27, he's pretty much the perfect age to gamble on and hope he does have #1 potential.
Still would rather see the Flames pass, tough.

i guess you have to trust the management staff.
the draft is all about getting your man. it's not about who the fanbase sees as ranked higher, and the same logic may be applied to acquiring a goalie of the future for the team.
if management feels he is the guy, then you take your man.
talbot played 36 games last year and had good numbers
most importantly wins with 21
.926 SVPCT
2.21GAA
but also 5 shutouts which puts him in a tie for 8th league wide while only playing 36 games
also overlooked is his performance the year prior.
in 2013-14
21GP
.941 SVPCT
1.64GAA
those are elite numbers.
i trust our staff and if talbot is their man, you go out and get him.

I think any deal would have to be contingent on being able to work out an extension ahead of time.
What a disaster that would be to acquire a pending UFA back-up goalie for anything more than 3rd round pick.
We are still a rebuilding team and I would rather risk taking a step back next season then see the team make a "win now" trade like this.

I'm curious to hear, if we ever do, why Ramo isn't returning.

Yeah, I agree it's unlikely, just brought it up as a possibility. I think the Flames want to find an upgrade in net, as IMO the Flames success last season came despite their goaltending mostly.
