Well, there is no point discussing anything because daddy knows best... As we are all aware, these guys often make grotesque mistakes...

Do we really have no faith in Ortio/Gillies/MacDonald and need to bring in a 27 year old goalie? Stick with Hiller/Ortio to start next year. If we have to trade away 2nd rounders let's beef up our RW and D.

It's not about a lack of faith. Goalies are impossible to project. How you get a good/elite goalie? Dumb luck or have a lot of bullets in the chamber (and then get lucky).

I'm still not saying I'm onboard spending a lot on Talbot, I'll be disappointed if spend a lot on him - but I can understand the reasoning.

The Flames are better off bolstering their offence and defence than try to find a goalie somewhere else. They currently have one signed, a couple in waiting, and another one they could sign but going free agent. Get a goalie when the team is ready as a Cup contender. The goalies the Flames currently have can backstop a team to the playoffs, which is good enough for a rebuilding team. I'd say the goalie position is the last piece of the puzzle and it's not the crucial piece as Chicago has shown for the past 6 years.

This is beyond stupid to me. They've got a ton of goalie prospects. What do they see in Talbot?

I'll be angry if they trade anything for him.

I think this is Tree driving up the market. He might not have actual interest in trading for a goalie, but could be driving up the price by staying in the bidding. By doing that he'd increase the chances that Hiller becomes an attractive option for teams that won't pay a premium for Talbot et al.

But then we'd need a Goalie like Talbot....

......Or we could sign one of the many free agent goalies available, like maybe Karri Ramo.

Carey Price would have had a sub .900SV% on the Oilers last year. Scrivens is an average starter on a competent team.

No he's not. That's just silly talk right there. Hiller and Ramo are average starters on competent teams. Scrivens is a notch or two below them.

I'd rather have Dubnyk or Lehner, but that's just me... I really hope we don't give up two 2nd's for him.

Why not sign niemi. Has a cup and coming off a bad year after a few solid years. He will get creaky when our guys are ready

I think when it comes to goalies, you can never be too sure. It's so hard to project how a goalie prospect will pan out compared to a skater, therefore getting Talbot would be a good idea.

Hiller has not been the model of consistency, and Ramo is also a question mark. Ortio has not proven himself in the bigs. Adding Talbot would be a smart move, depending on the asking price.

In my mind, a couple picks are worth Talbot.

PS: It'll be great watching HF Oilers go from glorifying Talbot right now to saying how horrible he is once we get him LOL.

Actually if you go over there a lot of fans are cool on them trading for Talbot (for the same reasons we should be) having lived through the scenario of a backup goaltender looking really good behind a cup contender and crashing down to earth as a starter on a bad team. Most of them would be pretty happy if the Flames swooped in on him actually.

I'm okay with a forking over a 2nd round pick (essentially Baertschi) for this guy but anything more is poor asset management IMO as this guy isn't proven at all and it's almost like they don't have any faith that they have anything close to a starter in their system.

No Flames there. Unless Dreger forgot.

Maybe Treeliving walked away when they wanted multiple picks but he was willing to only trade one.

I'd rather take a chance on Lehner being Healthy. That's just my preference though. Talbot does seem to be riding the coattails of the Rangers success. Which is a bit of a concern.

Truth be told, I just like Lehner more mainly because he's an In Flames fan and his mask is my favorite from last year. And he's got massive upside for a goaltender. That helps.
