I find it hard to believe that a big center would drop (as was discussed by FDW in an excellent post maybe in this thread). How good are these defenseman really?

Conroy's thoughts on potential 1st rounders:

Merkley
- saw 2 or 3 games were he just took over games
- 2nd game he saw he set the tone, was physical and making plays
- not a big guy
- everytime he is on the ice he just asserts himself
- playmaking and passing are strenghts
- question mark is his skating but some people say his skating is fine
- competetive will and drive is not going to hurt him

Bittner
- has a NHL shot
- got to love his skill - one thing that stands out
- he is in front of the net on the PP
- not saying he is Jeff Carter, but you can see similarities
- big and skates well and great hands

Meier
- big guy that can score and make plays
- swiss guy that can be physical - wont fight
- finishes checks
- skates well
- at Top Prospect game he really stood out

Konecny
- everytime he goes to watch him he scores two goals
- saw him play against Barrie and just runs over their leading scorer
- he brings that kind of physical presence
- skill and shot
- will to win. you can tell he has a high level of compete.

Surely he wouldn't slip past NJ at #6? They are in desperate need of some size, youth and skill down the middle.

Excellent. We planned a family outting for today (the days didn't click for me) but we should, hopefully, be home before that.

You should probably tune in late anyways.

Going to be a big circle jerk about the future of the Oilers for the first 10 minutes or so.

Each pick takes around 5 minutes or so? Less? I've always been working for the draft so I only had CP to update me.

Our pick should be around 6:30-7, maybe later. The 1st round usually wraps at 8:30-9

Might be a little later because of commercial breaks.

Let me just say, one more time, what a complete f***ing travesty it is that McDavid is going to be an Oiler.

Pretty sure Treliving said over radio that they weren't remotely close on any dealings involving moving up, let alone the top 5.

Interesting that they interviewed Boeser (twice?), but Conroy doesn't mention him. A little misdirection perhaps?

Who's live streaming the draft tomorrow?

Besides NBC Sports, are any of the big Canadian networks streaming it?

Frankly, I hope they trade the pick. 15th is cursed.

It has the lowest historical success rate of just about any first round pick (38.1%). By contrast the 14th pick has an 85% historical success rate and the 16th pick has a 61.9% success rate.

Trade up or trade down. But just trade it.
