the Mississippi State University people said Loki had cancer of the macrophages (type of white blood cell) so I guess it's like leukemia. They said this particular type usually shows up abruptly and spreads quickly. He also has pneumonia which he probably got the last few days of his life.

It sounds like we have to put my 13 year old pug down this afternoon.

Quinton was very healthy until just recently when he started having trouble standing up suddenly, and yesterday unable to use his front 2 legs at all.


He was a present from my parents for my 14th birthday. Ugh.

^ I hate the fact that this thread was bumped near the top when I was looking for it.

We will also be saying goodbye to my parents 12 year old Pug tomorrow morning. She has had a long list of medical issues over the past 6 months but at this point they have decided the best thing for her is to say goodbye and let her be at peace.

We put our cat down in December and now we are saying goodbye to another family member.

I do not handle this stuff well.

So sad. We had to put our Percy the Pug to sleep last November. He was 15. He pretty much lost the use of his hind legs and bathroom functions. We had Vets to Go come to our house which, all things considered, is something I highly recommend. As he aged, Percy really was scared of going to the vet, so we decided to have them come to us. At least he was comfortable in his own home.

Took him in at 2pm. For a pug, he definitely fell asleep in the happiest way possible... while eating cat treats.

I'm just destroyed emotionally though right now.

Had to take my little girl in this morning. She was only 6, but she had some form of super aggressive cancer that is quite common in Rottweilers. My house is so quiet and I don't know how to console my wife or kid.

Different people handle loss differently, but my suggestion is to have her cremated, and have a little funeral for her. I was devastated each time I've had a pet die, but having closure really helps.

Also remember, it's OK to feel grief. Many people will tell you otherwise, and depending on your daughter's age, she may have been told that "it's just a dog." It isn't; which is why this thread exists.

Ugh that sucks... I feel your pain. My guy had a really aggressive cancer too and I had to put him down when he wasn't even 6 yet.

The cancer was traumatizing and for a while it's the only memories I could associate with him which was really awful, but eventually you'll start remembering the good times as well. It'll take a while, especially when you're conditioned to look at her favorite spots in the house for her, but it does get better.

Unfortunately there's not going to be much of a consolation you can give your wife/daughter other than support... hell I'm in my mid 30's and still have "how!?!?/why!!?!?" questions about cancer.

Thanks guys. This is a pretty hard day. I still can't get over her final sigh as the sedatives ended her breathing and heart beat. I look around my house and see a toilet lid left up and it would remind me of Sadie stealing a drink. I see her nose prints on the window where she would stand and bark at elderly couples walking past our house. I see the one singular dead patch of grass where she always pee'd. Our three year old son (sorry I didn't clarify that before) can't seem to understand she is gone. He calls out for DeeDee and can't comprehend why she isn't bowling him over with excitement.

I'm taking your advice Ken. We got her cremated, because I wouldn't have been able to bury her. We are collecting a few of her favourite things, her mega ball, her leash, her hiking water dish, and we are walking down to the river by her favourite spot to plant a cross, a picture, and her things. We are going to have a little goodbye ceremony and visit her as often as possible.

And anyone who says it's "just a dog" needs to have their ###### cut off and told "it's just a ######" and see how they feel.
