16. Chabot - oilers may take samsanov as he might not be there at their next pick. Excellent puck mover, can skate like the wind. Similarities to alex pietrangelo. Type of defender teams are going to put a premium on.
17. Bittner - jets need some size in their system. When he engages he is a handful to deal with. Lots of upside. One question mark is that he doesn't take over games. Needs another year or two to work on skating.
18. White - center does everything really good, but not exceptional. Will be a good 2 way forward for a decade. Can skate, good vision can skate. Safe pick.
19. Svechnikov - detroit has had good luck with russians. Really athletic player. Smooth skater. Lots of upside. Detroit will groom him and put him in a position to succeed. Big and can score. If you can round out his game into a 200 foot game you will be laughing.
20. Harkins - no explanation was given. Went strangely to commercial and then came back to 21.

loubardias regrets the meier pick now ... Thinks there is little chance the flames will take him.
21. Zboril - with eichel and reinhart down the middle. Got good prospects on winger. But room on defence. Really set the world on fire in the ivan hlinka. Upside is fantastic. Terrific frame. Shoots it exceptionally well. Does everything well. Shift to shift - might look like a world beater one shift than disappear the next few shifts. Like to see him more aggressive physically. Has some nastiness to him just needs to apply it to his overall game.
22. Sprong - not sold on going to jeremy roy yet. Polarizing player. Offensive and dynamic player. Issues playing from his blue line in. Selfish tag attached to him. If you can round out his bumps will be a great player. Comparisons to phil kessel. His offensive tools might be so good that teams might overlook his warts.
23. Kylington - fabulous skater. Best skating defender in draft. If he ever figures it out canucks will be very happy adding a fast puck moving defender. Biggest risk/reward player. He is trending down because he hasn't shown consistency this season.
24. Carlo - off the board a little bit. Big nasty physical blue liner. One of the fleetest of foot for defencemen in the draft. Top lines don't want to see him. Never going to put big points up. If you are going to pick him here, he better be a #4 defenceman at the next level.
25. Debrusk - no comparison to dad. Terrific point producer. Can play c or w. He is a late "grower". Makes players around him better. Has good consistency and trending up in his development.

Why does Lou think flames wouldn't take Meier if he's there at 15? seems like he'd be a great pick for us.

Swiss player that has question marks about his 200 ft game and commitment to fitness, just doesn't fit the bill. Both Lou and Vickers said they had Merkley or Konecny pegged for Calgary, but they were off the board in this mock. They said that they feel that if the draft happened to play out like their mock that Calgary would strongly think about dropping back a few picks and grabbing a dman, think at 15 that the dmen left on the board would be a reach.
Lou also said that he thinks the Flames will look at every option to move into the top 10.
Basically they took Meier because he was their highest ranked player left on their list, but don't think he will be as high on the Flames list.

No Eriksson-Ek in their draft? That seems like a miss.

I think that is pretty sound reasoning if it did go down this way. Maybe Meier, but if they drop a few spots and pick up another second, there could be more wheeling and dealing to potentially pick up Boeser/Chabot or some other enticing combination. I still think, barring any trades, they would go with Svechnikov in that situation.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Meier I still think goes higher but I could see the Flames skipping on him @15 if his commitment to the gym is lacking. Seems like over the last couple of seasons that's become a religious aspect of the Flames culture.
EDIT: Surprising they didn't even touch the idea of Svechnikov @15 but really went hard at lamenting picking Meier. Especially given the fact they were really complimentary of Svechnikov when they had DET take him. I get that both Loubo and the other guy were big on Merkley.
After listening to the guys go on about Kylington, if consistency is their issue from this past season, I can see the Flames take real long and serious look at him on draft day.

Yeah I see Meier as being the slipping guy in this draft - and if he slips - I think he slips right by the Flames as well.

Could just easily swap out Eriksson Ek for Guryanov in their Mock.

I would be a quite upset if we passed on Meier's goal scoring ability for somebody like Boeser or White.

Well, I had a big long thing typed out about Meier but I guess I'll just link to the Nations site.

PSA: for the purposes of the NHL draft I shall now be called "PCSHockeyLeague".

These kids are 17 years old. We don't know for sure WHAT ability they have. All we've got is educated guesses. In Meier's case, there's a reasonable position that it's a one-off (his 16 year old season was nothing to write home about in terms of first round pick status) and he played the year with Ehlers. So does he really have top-15-pick scoring talent, without an elite skill player next to him?

Good question, although if the Flames take him it's with the intention of his playing with Monahan/Gaudreau or Sam Bennett. He'll get nice set ups from them.

I know this is generally frowned upon but ill post anyways.
I know a relative of a former Flames scout who claims to have some Knowledge of who certain scouts are high on.
Claims Flames will probably take Boeser. Also says they like White/Zboril.
later rounds very high on Siegenthaler.
Also mentioned Vince Dunn and Mccool.
Take with a grain of salt!
Last year he was 1/3
(picked Smith, who half the posters here predicted as well)
Forgot to mention-Thinks Meier will fall hard, Flames will not pick him.

It is interesting to hear Craig Button's thoughts on why he has Konecny ranked so low.
First Button thinks Konecny will be a NHLer. However, he will have a chance to be a top end player if he improves his speed and quickness. If he doesn't improve in those areas Button doesn't think he will have a top end impact in the NHL - will be more of a middle 6 forward.

That said, it seems like Winnipeg grabs Boeser at 18 if we don't.
Either way, it depends on the Flames' talent ledges.

I doubt Boeser slips past Winnipeg at 17 or Minnesota at 20.
As for between him and someone like Meier, if there are more question marks about Meier and the Flames feel the skill difference is not that big between them then they should pick Boeser. From the way Craig Button described Boeser it sounds like he may even be the better goal scorer. If Boeser adds 10-20 pounds to his frame they would also be the same size, which might be the only thing Meier has on Boeser. From the sounds of how his interviews went he sounds like a player that is more probably more coveted by NHL scouts than the rankings in the media.
