Sounds like outside of Calgary he didn't get a lot from Canadian voters.

Wouldn't being 1st overall actually be a detriment to Ekblad when being compared to 104th overall Gaudreau? Ekblad was undoubtedly going to be in the calder conversation before the season. Gaudreau? Not so much.

The encouraging part is, as an aspiring sports media person, witnessing the mentally defective nature of hockey writers speaks well to my chances.

I live in the real world....ALL those things will come into play in voters minds regardless of the criteria.

but even if they didn't, Ekblad still had a truly amazing year.

Price destroyed the Vezina voting, man. Fully expect him to walk away with the Hart too.

Johnny getting third is more proof of what a joke the NHL Awards are.

I think the media likes to hype the 1st overall thing. Helps them promote draft analysis and draft coverage a lot more than saying "look how low the stars got picked."

Johnny got 3rd? Stone's going to be retired before Johnny hits his prime, he looked about 40 why is he even in this race?

If my math is correct, Johnny was actually on more ballots (157) than Stone (155) and Ekblad (153), and didn't receive any 5th place votes.

The person who voted for Cam Talbot should not be allowed to vote again ever.

All 3 could have won it easily.

Johnny and Ekblad will have better careers than Stone though, and that's all that matters.

Ovechkin beat Crosby for the Calder, but we all know who's better.

The voting process is a joke.

I assume Sather's ballot looked like this:
  1. Lundqvist
  2. Price
  3. Talbot

Also have to assume that Dubnyk and Rinne's first place votes came from their own GMs.
