I don't think the Russian factor is as big of a problem with their economy crumbling. There were shady stories coming out of there as is, I don't want to think what would be happening when they couldn't pay their players.

I would imagine there are a decent amount of Russian players wanting out at the moment.

Just today word got out that 2 russians (1 confirmed) are about to sign in PITT. Russian factor is fading.

The Russian factor is becoming the NCAA factor. Too many of these kids are opting for Free Agency.

I think the more interesting question is what are they doing with Hiller? Say the Flames pick-up a Lehner or Lack... does anyone think that they'd go into training camp with three goaltenders on one-way contracts that aren't waiver exempt? IMO None of them would even clear waivers.

If the Flames are bringing in a goalie then IMO it means they already have some deal lined up for Hiller.

Flames will need to add, but any chance of a Hiller/Oshie swap?

St. Louis already has Allen and Elliott. Does anyone think Hiller is an upgrade on either? I sure don't. So no.

I would agree generally. Allen looks to be a good one, but he did crap the bed in the playoffs. Horrible goals at the worst time really sunk that team.

Man, Bozak would be a nice fit now that I've thought about it some more. Won't be the number 1 or 2 or even 3 C but can fill in at all of them and can work RW with faceoff insurance built in.

If you believe Jim Matheson, he claims the Flames and Blues explored a Hiller for Allen swap last season.

Really? Well that would have been sweet.
I'm not the biggest Hiller fan - so I'm surprised anyone would view him as an upgrade over other mediocre 1b type guys.

Craig Morgan @cmorganfoxaz
Two sources shot down the idea of Blackhawks F Bryan Bickell coming to the Coyotes to help them get to the salary cap floor

One name I keep hearing in potential deal between #Blackhawks and Stars involving Patrick Sharp is Antoine Roussel. Has $2 million cap hit.

Roussel would be a good replacement if Bickell gets traded.

Bozak for a second rounder is more or less equal value. If I'm a team interested in the guy I maybe push for a 3rd rounder instead in this type of year draft. Bozak is really good on faceoffs, and can occasionally score. Toronto media has sometimes (unfairly) jumped on him, but if you're putting him on your 3rd line, you got a really deep team. Toronto's often playing him on the 1st which he shouldn't be. Even on the 2nd line he's a decent fit. It wouldn't surprise me if Calgary, with the Burke connection, comes in to get him.

I continue to find the whole Flames goalie search bizarre. We had average/mediocre goaltending last year, and now we are talking about adding other teams' average/mediocre goalies and throwing assets away for the privilege. I can see Lehner or Jones somewhat as they are still young and could progress. What are we trying to accomplish here? Get a goalie with some upside or get better at the position to be in the playoff hunt next season? If we just want a better goalie then trade for Craig Anderson - he is injury prone, but he can actually be a difference maker, unlike all the rest of these guys (BTW I am not advocating trading for Anderson, just saying...). And Ramo makes me laugh. Who the hell does he think he is? He is a mediocre, stylistically flawed goalie that doesn't fit the current mold (large, positionally sound). Nobody will pay except maybe a team that needs to reach the cap floor and wants to tank for Watson...

I still wonder if Skinner would thrive with any change of scenery.

I'd give up a 2nd for Bozak, especially since we have 3, but I don't see the need for him here, so I'd pass based on that and not the price.
