I rather give Matt Irwin a 3 x 3 than Schlemko.

Schlemko is coming off a two year contract. Even a one year deal at $1.5M would be the highest he's ever been paid as a pro. It would certainly not be a pay cut.

Idk, I would argue he's a top 10 UFA dman. And he's on the right side of 30. This is a very weak UFA class and there's a lot of teams with needs on the backend.

You're arguing that Schlemko is an awesome, sought after NHL defenceman despite the fact that two teams placed him on waivers last season and the only reason Calgary kept him was because they had no depth. You deserve nothing but being laughed at.
This thread is already stupid. Can we talk about Jankowski instead?

Soooooo, you really like Schlemko. This is pretty clear. I don't want to pile on but top ten UFA D man? C'mon. Top 20? maybe.

Schlemko was a 6/7 D-man for us. He's not going to get paid more than 1/1.5m per/yr.
Saying that, I did like the look of him. If we can re-sign him for another year at around that amount I would welcome him back. He's used to Hartley's system now so he would be a decent 6/7 d-man. If not, then I'm not too fussed.

No. That would be a typical UFA mistake. Not worth the money he's looking for.

He signed a two year deal at $1,187,500 average/cap hit.

I met Matt Irwin 2 weeks ago (he lives here). I told him I was a Flames fan and he should come over. He kind of chuckled. Turns out he was a Sharks fan as a child himself, so funny that he got drafted by them. He was a really nice guy. Cool Story Bro moment

Random list I pulled up of 21 players. Some you could argue won't be there like Beauchemin, and some that should be on the list.
More than 10 easily either way though.

I think the timing would be wrong for the Flames, but those numbers aren't necessarily bad. Flames don't need to spend a lot for a UFA right now, they are still building.
When the time comes though, paying a guy like Joel Ward 10 mil isn't horrible.

The deadline for QO's is Monday June 29th.
Some information has already been leaked about some RFAs getting QOs and some not. For example, Baertschi received his QO today.

teams cautious? they'll be all over him like wild dogs on July 1. This July 1 will be like all other July 1s. He'll get 5 million per.
