I don't buy the reason McDavid looked upset at the lottery. Here is someone who as succeeded their entire life until one fateful moment when the words Edmonton Oilers were spoken. Of course he was devastated.
I have also accepted that McDavid will be a superstar player wearing the disgusting blue and orange of the Oil. My hope though is that he Flames have a player in Bennett with the ability to neutralize his former teammate. If these two players cancel each other out the Flames will come ahead on centre and defence depth and the BOA will continue to be one sided.

I did not realize they could write an article long enough about what it's like to be McDavid. I figured he would just be constantly waking up to cold sweats after nightmares of Kevin Lowe announcing his name at the draft.
"With the first overall pick, the Edmonton Oilers are proud to select..."

You must know the half dozen or so smart Oilers fans. Even Eberle thinks the Oilers are the Hawks now.
I admit, there's a few who are taking it with cautious optimism, but the majority of Oilers fans and people in the organization are about as self aware as Donald Trump in his presidential bid interviews. 'Hey! I'm the best!'
PS, forgot to say it the first time, great article. Thanks KN.

I think people exaggerate with how they see Oiler fans in terms of how well they think they are going to do next year. Just because 1-2 journalists say Edmonton will be better and then the smaller percentage of people in each fan base say they will be, people make the assumption that all Oiler fans think they will be a playoff team.
I'd say 80% of Oiler fans don't think they will make the playoffs next year. 10% just don't know any better and the other 10% think McDavid will be the savior. Getting a goaltender, a top pairing defenseman, and a top 4 defenseman at minimum have to happen for that talk to start to happen.

He doesn't want to come across as a pouty Lindros-esque prima donna, which is what will be talked about if he looks like he's angry and disappointed again. He no doubt wants to put all the speculation behind him as he knows he has no choice but to play in Edmonton other than by doing something that he already said he wouldn't do.
The spin on the reaction is hilarious though, I'll give them that.
April 2015. Shocked and horrified to hear the Oilers have won the lottery and will 100% be drafting him.
June 2015. Smiles and happy to hear the Oilers have drafted him.
But it's just his personality, it's just who he is...
Yeah right, I can see why they didn't want to admit the truth but 'it's his personality' is just a hilarious load of BS. He was clearly devastated to hear the news when it happened, nothing that comes after will convince me otherwise. It was plainly obvious for all to see.

I think your the one trying to spin it a certain way.

Donald Trump cares about the publicity. I'm sure he knows he will never win.
And I don't know exactly what Eberle said but I'm sure he means more that they have a lot of quality young players in place that resembles the Hawks. The same comparison we have seen on here for the Flames. Pretty sure everyone sees the difference between a team that has finished near the bottom year after year after year and a team that won 3 of the last 6 cups.

I'm legitimately sad and not looking forward to the future with regards to Edmonton. I thoroughly enjoyed chirping my friends and family who are almost all Oiler fans. I hate the oilers with my whole being. My brother cheered for Calgary this season because his oilers were so hopeless, but I could never do that. The hate runs deep.
The reason I'm worried, is because of a string of changes that likely make a positive difference. The biggest reason for the Oilers futility wasn't some mysterious karma attached to the franchise: it was a loyalty to absolutely incompetent group. They recycled the same idiocracy that has no clue what they were doing. Since then, they've hired a cup winning GM with a great drafting record, a coach with a great record and is highly thought of, and fired the worst scouts in the league. In every one of these positions, the oilers got better by orders of magnitude edibility by not employing the worst staff in the league.
On the ice, things change quickly. As of today, their roster isn't going to scare the 29th best team. However, there are actually people there now who recognize that. I don't think you'll hear Chiarelli say he's impressed with the progress of a team that even to the blind is getting worse. You're not going to see Chiarelli hire a rookie coach to run a rookie locker room with attitude problems. Chiarelli isn't going to say Schultz is a future Norris winner.
That's why I'm afraid. Not for this year, but for years from now. I suppose competitive balance is good for a rivalry, but I'm a petty man and savor my schadenfreude

There is no franchise that deserves McDavid less. I hope they ruin him, I hope those pathetic fans never see a winning franchise. They are sickening and despicable to pro sports, I hate everything about the Oilers and I now hate McDavid.
I'm also not buying the hype. The same "generational talent" talk was rolled out for Tavares and Stamkos. Yah he'll likely be a superstar but I really don't buy into him being the next Gretzky.

Based on my admittedly small sample size. I disgree. I disagree strongly. They're as Kool-aid as ever. They were finally coming down to earth, and then McDavid fell in their laps and it was same old same old.
I'd sat you guys are even more annoying than last year in fact. Not you specifically. You've always been one of the best posters on here regardless of colors. But your brethern. More annoying and idiotic than ever.
