I tell you what Jiri, I've got my thread all written up if Calgary doesn't get the guy I want.
The guy I want? Whoever is drafted immediately after Calgary drafts.
I'm taking the Lt.Spears approach.

With the 15th selection in the 2015 Draft, the Flames are proud to select.. From the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League... Centreman Anthony Beauvillier.

He's a pretty interesting player and pick. Could easily fall somewhere between the 20th-30th picks. Do I see the Flames picking him at 15? Nah.. but if someone grabs him a handful of picks later I think they got a player. Beauvillier exploded from 9 goals and 33 points to 42 goals and 94 points. And it's not like he's being propped up by another player, Anthony lead Shawinigan by 30.
Concerns would be a little undersized (not small) and if his offensive level is for real.
If the Flames drafted him at 15 you'd wonder if they could have gotten him a little later but man there is a lot to like with this player.

Obviously everyone will have a short list of their favorite players and I'm fine with any of the consensus players in the range of 10-20 being picked. I would be a little disappointed if they went off the board taking one of the defenseman that are projected late in the first round just because they feel they need a defenseman. Not saying I feel they will do that but that would kind of stink IMO.

If that's your approach you also have to vote for Calgary to draft a guy and then meltdown when they actually draft that same guy.

Meh, we all have our preferences. A lot of us have gone to bat for our opinions on players for the last month.
This draft after #7 is going to be a fascinating series of picks all the way down to 30. I'd bet some players ranked in the mid 2nd round could sneak into the top 30. Wouldn't surprise me one single bit.

I still think the funniest reaction out of the fan base will be if they took Ilya Samsanov in the 1st round.

If the pick was 22nd or later I would be pretty content with Carlo.
But at 15th? Ehh...

David Jankowski in the first round would be hilarious. Fans would try to justify it by saying "THERE IS NO BOARD!!!" but mostly this place would be hostile.

What a move down to low 20s for an additional second - and then they take Carlo?

Thankfully Treliving isn't Feasbrod.

He's also very good on faceoffs (> 60% last year as a 17 year old). which if it translates to the NHL, means he could be a Datsyuk/Giroux/TJ type #1C
But man would there be an uproar about taking a 5'10 player "projected" around 35 @15 :P

They aren't your top choices for what might be attainable at #15?
Who would be? Just a question.

I think if management feels he's our guy, he might be taken at 15.
|
Yep. If Boeser is your guy why not just pick him at 15? Why trade down to pick him?

That's my feeling too. I'd only trade down if I was ok with taking the best player remaining. If I identified a particular player, it would be silly to risk losing him.

If Boeser's your guy, and you think he's there further up, then you get another 2nd. (ideally, Buffalo's #21+#31) Way too much talent potentially available all the way in the 2nd round..Roy, Cernak, Larsson, Guryanov, Harkins, Roslovic, Carlo, Bracco, Kyllington, Beuvillier, Zenyshyn, Juulsen, Brisebois, Spencer, Sprong, Dunn, Dermott, DeBrusk.
That said, it seems like Winnipeg grabs Boeser at 18 if we don't.
Either way, it depends on the Flames' talent ledges.

I wonder if Buffalo would trade 21, 31 for 15 and one of our seconds?
21. Boeser
31. Beauvillier
