Watched it in IMAX last night. Pretty good action flick but I wasn't too thrilled by it. I just kept thinking of all the possible lawsuits throughout the whole movie haha.

Don't let me stop you, definitely a cool movie to see in theatres!
But yeah, just too cliche' and cheesy for my taste. I hadn't paid attention to any trailers or pre-reviews so I was expecting a more modern serious tone.

Wow, I'm very surprised that CP seemed to collectively enjoy this movie. I guess I might be in the minority here, but it felt way too cheesy and over the top. Even for a "check your brain at the door, summer movie."
There was very little character progression, a lot of cheesy lines between the brothers, and characters just making dumb, unrealistic decisions every second.
The CGI and action were very good and don't take away from the film at all, but other than that I was not impressed. Oh, and Chris Pratt is solid, but doesn't get near enough screen time.
I don't remember the original being this over the top, but then again maybe my memory is just bad. Very surprised at the reception it's getting though.

^^^It's likely a billion dollar movie in 2 weeks, I liked it for the fun factor, the somewhat cheesy lines and the visual effects were outstanding.
bax, I'm at a loss thinking of what you expected, personally I didn't expect it to be as good as it was.

I thought the movie was ok. It looked and sounded good and did well with building tension. The cheese was a little hard to get past sometimes (why would the soldiers have their heart rate monitored?), but it was mostly forgiven.
On a random off-topic note, why do we have to watch 20 minutes of commercials at the theater when we pay $15/ticket?

- No long line-up for food.
- I can pause to take a piss.
- On and on - get off my grass!
It take a lot to get me to go to a theater. I've probably only go once or twice a year, for the past 7 years.
I'll go for this, and then Star Wars in December.

Ya, I guess I knew that. I imagine more people are bringing in their own food too. I go as often as you for the same reasons so maybe I'm just not rembering there being that many ads. I do like the stupid trivia though.
My girlfriend wanted to go see Spy, which, even though is supposed to be funny, breaks my rule of a movie requiring big sound to get my money.

Seriously? Every week there's another mega million release. Theatres are all corporate owned and tied to the studios. Saying they don't make money off the movie is just creative accounting. If anything the theatres needed advertising revenue before they had to sell out to the corporations.
Yes the magical beancounters have made it so the theatre 'only' makes money off the concessions, but if you look at all the different sources of income, this industry is doing pretty damn good.
Is the income being shared fairly? no, the studios and big stars take the majority, but the money is there. It's as bad as paying 1.17 at the pump when oil is 50 a barrel.

Just saw it last night and had a lot of fun.
I honestly didn't see any corn at all in the Raptor stuff. If they are intelligent as has been indicated throughout the series, and they are bred in captivity, I don't see why they couldn't be trained like dogs. I thought the relationship between Owen and the Raptors was the most interesting part of the movie. I thought Pratt was great. The humour in the movie hit the mark for the most part "Your boyfriend's a badass."
I thought the characteristics of the main bad dino gave it an "Alien" type feel where you never knew when it could pop out and that suspense held very well through most of it.
The thing I think that is splitting people is perhaps the dino battles. The original and really the first 3 in general had little to no interaction between the animals and it was mostly about the people running from the monsters. I liked that they had battles between predators looking for their place in the food chain. It makes perfect sense to me that these animals would end up fighting if they were left in the open.
Some predictable stuff (splicing Raptor into the big one, Raptor antagonist dies by Raptor, T-Rex battle). I thought Howard was just OK. She got better near the end, but I didn't think held the stiff CEO type very well at the beginning.
There was some stuff that I noticed they just kind of skimmed over. That flying Raptor thing when the Pteros escaped, Grady didn't have any questions about that? What happened to the scientist, it seems like they were going to kill him or something. I liked the Hammond-type guy flying the helicopter, but hoped he survived or at least did a little more. Would have liked to see Howard grab some souvenir shoes to wear or something. Women running from animals that can keep up to cars in heels ticks me off. She would be done. And how did she get through the jungle in those?
Also, thought it was quite a bit more violent than the other three.
Anyways, I really enjoyed it, 8/10.

Alright I liked everything up until the pet raptors thing. I know they made them out to be smart in the last movie but I just can't get past it. Seems like something out of a disney movie. I also hate "monster on monster" fights like the last Godzilla so the ending of this movie was a total miss for me.
Again though, the first 2/3rds were awesome.

I get the second part (monster battles) sort of. Although I hold that I don't see why they wouldn't fight, pretty common amongst predators in the animal kingdom, no? The only thing I didn't really like was that the Rex just walked away after. Rex are supposed to be dumb, and therefore it should've just chased the food (people), as it was the way she got it out in the first place.
However, I don't get why you (and others) can get past Raptor squad. People have been using vicious predators as companions since humans existed. And if Raptors are even as intelligent as dogs, they should be able to do that. If they are at dolphin-level intelligence, like they seem to display, even moreso. I thought that scene was going to be super corny too, but I thought they handled it pretty well and them turning on him in favour of the larger alpha made sense and kept it relatively grounded I thought.
For a movie about a dino-theme park, I don't feel like their stretching it too much with that type of stuff. Really, they could have even given the Raptors genes that would make them more docile/trainable and it would have been explained just fine. But I prefer the "relationship" part of it more I think.

Saw it for the second time and I must say I enjoyed it way more this time. Maybe because it was dead empty (10 people maybe) and I didn't have to listen to people talk the whole time or listen to the entire theatre erupt with laughter at every slightly funny moment. Favourite scene is when the raptors turn and on the screens it shows all four of them staring Pratt down. Awesome
Solid 8

Only 5 movies have ever made $500 million domestically. Not only does JW join the club today, it was the fastest to get there after only 17 days.
Avengers' total is in sight. Avatar isn't, really.

Although I was expecting it anyway, I'm glad that there was less emphasis on the 'special family unit' that shows up in all later Spielberg produced/directed movies. If I remember correctly in JP3, every single scientist/ninja died and the family came through with nary a scratch. This one at least there were other (competent) characters responsible for the general state of survival. So... a plus there.
Really there were only minor gripes with this movie. It wasn't hard to just sit back and enjoy.
As for the violence, there was only one death that could possibly be traumatic for a kid. Had more of a feel of Jaws than JP.

Finally went and saw it last night and I enjoyed it. I've watched 1-3 recently over the past few months to get ready for this one so all of the nostalgia really hit home, that was great.
I had a Walking Dead moment though when they just get the jeep running that has been sitting there for 20 years like nothing.. but whatevs. The high heels didn't really bug me that much but my wife couldn't let it go, lol.
Overall though just a great fun movie, the T-Rex battle at the end sent chills up my spine for sure, that was great.

Cappy - are you me? I had the exact same reaction to that scene. Still enjoyed the movie though.
I wonder if the parents ended up getting divorced?
