I'll take who ever had the highest raw talent level, and Barzal would be if he falls out of the top 10

Yeah no. Don't get me wrong, I like Barzal, I just cringed at the Tanguay comparison. I don't want to scream at my t.v ever night "SHOOT!" for many year. I like Barzal, has a killer shot and a great nose for the net. Knows when to patrol the perimeter and when to get to the dirty area. Really impressed with his U-18 highlights.

How many pure playmakers do the Flames have besides Gaudreau?

I don't know, maybe probably, yes... no? If Barzal is there for the Flames at 15 you scoop him up faster then a strawberry sundae regardless. He's a right handed shot so if you're strong on centers switching him to the right side would be an easy transition.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Barzal
xxx - Bennet - Poirier
Excuse me while I drool.

Hudler I consider to be a playmaker.

It was just off the top of my head. I hate comparisons, I'm bad at them and rarely do you make one without 10 different people pointing out ten different reasons why they're wrong.
All I meant was a good two-way play making winger if he's moved.

He's not a long-term piece though. Whoever we draft won't be stepping in for at least a couple seasons (unless we hit a home run).

Based on Button's mock I would be very disappointed to see the Flames bypass Bittner, Svechnikov or Carlo for White. White reminds me of John Ramage. I like Ramage, but you can get John Ramages later in the draft. Taking White in the first round would be like taking Kris Chucko all over again.

A lot of the praise about Harkins from a few weeks ago could be applied to White. From Red Line's draft spotlight:
Not sure about his offensive upside, but it sounds like he could be a good #2 center. Of course if there are forwards with a higher ceiling still on the board, I'd prefer the Flames go that route. But White doesn't seem to be a total dud either, he's ranked right where the Flames are picking - nobody seems to be talking about him though.

In E-Mac's profile of Colin White he likened him to Dylan Larkin and Curtis Lazar:

With the Flames saying they are prioritizing offensive skill and their depth at center I'm not sure if White is high on their list compared to some of the sexier options but other than that he has a lot of what they look for. Character, leadership, 200 foot game, high hockey IQ and coachability. Definitely sounds like he will be a solid NHLer and it's interesting to see if a team thinks he has more offense than shown and picks him in mid teens.

Draft Pick

It's so damn tempting to pursue a finisher in the first round but on the second thought - maybe it's Colin White or Brandon Carlo that we need the most to make the Flames complete? These guys won't be there come second round... Sure, we could then target poor man's Carlo and poor man's White but the same can be said about offensive forwards.

I really don't understand what you mean.
White projects to be a Jarret Stoll like player. Are we one Jarret Stoll away from being complete? Honestly, the issue with guys like Carlo and White isn't that they're not effective/good hockey players. The issue is that if you're one Rich Peverley from a cup you can make the trade to get him, not burn a 15th overall.
That is why, IMO, Flames are better off taking a riskier pick with higher upside at 15. (Svechnikov, Merkley, Guryanov?, Boeser even).

I get your point but if the scouts are right then you get a sure fire blue chip 2nd/3rd line pivot in Colin White. If true then you put your team ahead of the ones giving TOI to pretty average Jarret Stolls. To be successful we need all the formations (or at least most) to be above the league average. That what separates champions from champion wannabes, doesn't it? Besides - it's better to grow talents in own system rather than trading for them or - even worse - throwing money at them (ufa).

Seems like we need to Trade up into the 8 to 11 range or trade down. Seems like all these mock drafts put us in a ledge that places us into prospects that are smallish, centers, lack of good d men, wonder if we end up trading down?
Do you think Buffalo would trade 21 & 31 for our 15 - seems like a bit of an overpayment for Buffalo but the 21 & 51 seems like its not enough? We would pick 3 in a row though, 51 to 53.
Would love to have 21 and 31, wind up picking Carlo & Kylington or Carlo & Chabot, Zaboril & Chabot?? Back end would be pretty solid in a few years especially with our others in the pipeline (Morrison, Hickey etc.)

I think we're better off staying at #15 and taking whatever 'dropper' comes our way.

Unless we can move up to 3 or wherever to get Hanafin, I agree that we should stay at 15.
I watched the TSN draft special and I didn't really agree with most of the picks Button made, especially the nucks picking Carlo in the first round...I hope he falls to us in the second.

I want another speedster. I haven't read up on the prospects that much, but skating should be number 1 priority to me, followed by iq, etc. Is Svechnikov fast?

The Flames have said they're drafting the player with the highest ceiling in the first round. This is not Colin White.
