This is what I am hoping for. Apparently Philly never even brought him in for an interview, so we can maybe scratch them off the list.

A couple of teams in front of us have a bit of a history of being off the "board" a bit.
New Jersey, L.A., Carolina, and Philly have all done this in the recent past. Hopefully they do it again this year.

Every time I watch some U-18 highlights I keep noticing Mitchell Stephens. 6'0" 187 lbs Rh C
with Saginaw. I think he'd be a fantastic pick in the 2nd round.

That would require us trading up imo.

Not so certain man. At this point I feel like trying to predict 7-18 is like herding cats.
1.McJesus
2. Eichel
3. Strome
4. Marner
5. Hanifin
6. Rantanen

We think differently, I think there is a top 12. I can see 10-12 falling to us, but I Barzal is more of a 7th/8th ranked player that I do not see falling out of the top 10.

Devils won't pick a defenceman. They have literally zero good forward prospects.

Rantanen. That was just more My ranking of players. Rantanen would've been #7.

Yup outside of the top 4/5 drafts are hard to predict.
Somebody always seems to "shockingly" fall. Hopefully it happens to be somebody the Flames really like.
Personally I could see Barzal falling. Since 2006 no CHL drafted forward has went top 10 without a goal scoring season over 20 goals. (Barzal had 26 total goals in 2 WHL seasons).

If I were to guess,
7. Provorov
8. Connor
9. Crouse
10. Zacha
11. Werenski
12. Guryanov
13. Meier
14. Svechnikov
15. Barzal
In the end I think size will win out the day n the top 14. Barzal is a very averged sized winger compared to the rest.
EDIT: Swap Rantanen and Provorov @ 6 and 7.

It's absolutely becoming an issue. Even if only 1/4 of high-end college prospects go to free agency, that's a risk that seriously undermines their draft rank.

Are you saying they're awful because they go to UFA after college, because that is what I'm saying.
I'm not even saying I disagree with them, I'm just saying they're becoming a gamble to waste a draft pick on.

He's subtly undermining your argument by pointing to Gaudreau.

Considering the hand wringing that went on around here, I wouldn't say that's a good argument. Conroy even felt the pressure to get him signed last year or he could be lost.

Is there a reason some of you are so high on Barzal? Don't know much about him but his numbers certainly don't wow anyone. What am I missing about this guy? His stats alone suggest he should fall way past 15th overall.
