I would be OK with taking either but I think Greening is a better fit. Big guy who can skate. Dollers on his contract aren't very good but the term is short. If he gets hot you can ride him with offensive guys and put him in front of the net on the PP, if he gets cold he is a better fit in the bottom 6 than Raymond and is no stranger to being in the press box.

For what it's worth.... Colin is a good buddy of mine and is just looking for a chance to contribute to a winning team after everything that has happened in Ottawa over the last year and change. Granted, I'm biased but I think he's a guy with a ton of character who would fit into the culture Hartley is trying to cultivate (whether his skillset is a fit in Calgary is another issue altogether though)

@DarrenDreger: Talbot trade watch continues. Expect he gets traded this week. Buf, Edmtn, SJ and Dallas in the mix. Great contract requires high return.
No mention of flames this time

If there's a bidding war, I hope the Flames are out of it. Talbot really hasn't shown anything to me that suggests he's worth this much but I haven't watched him much.

If the cost for Talbot is anything what I've seen and heard rumored (late 1st rounder and a prospect or a couple 2nd's), I really hope the Flames stay way away from it and that the Oil use their 16th OA to get him. I really don't think he's all that great, sure he did really good job filling in for Lundqvist last year, but a lot of people seem to forget the Rangers were the best team in regular season as well.

It will be hilarious if the Oilers end up paying big for Talbot but make no improvements to their defence. How fast do the fans run him out of the city when he gets lit up every night just like all of their previous goalies?

would want more back (or pay less). Ottawa unlikely to do that as they just want to dump Greening.
Raymond is a better player than Greening and the latter has negative trade value, far more than Raymond. Lehner for 53 is probably fair market value in itself.
So Lehner for #53 overall or Lehner/Greening for Washington's 3rd would be fair.

I threw out a similar idea last page - just no Raymond.
Adding Raymond doesn't make sense to me for 2 reasons:
1. Greening is negative value, so why add more?
2. I don't see Raymond as a fit for their roster, especially as a budget team
Raymond is a perfect guy to trade to Arizona - helps them fill out a lineup, under contract already, tides them over until they want to compete

Raymond is a contract cap dump in my opinion. He represents little to no value in my opinion

I think if we get Lehner, I think it will cost us 45+one of our 3rds and we'll have to take back Greening or Legwand. Personally, I would do that trade as there is no guarantee any of Gillies/Ortio/McDonald will be ready by 2016/17 for starting duties and I seriously doubt Hiller will be re-signed after this year. Better to be proactive and fix the hole before it becomes a hole.
Lehner is still young, has untapped potential, has 2 years remaining on his current deal and is an RFA after it expires. He would be a great guy to target IMO. Another guy I wonder about is Martin Jones in LA, haven't heard much about him but there is no way he'll ever be the #1 guy in LA unless Quick declines or leaves. Regardless, whether it's Jones or Lehner or someone else, a 22-25 year old goalie of some sort should be a major trade target for this team, so we don't run into trouble with goaltending 15 months from now. Not that I doubt any of our 3 prospect goalies, but they are all still so very young and the worst thing you can do to a young goalie is make him a starter in the NHL before he's ready, and most goalies simply aren't ready for that until 23 or 24 at the earliest. Like it or not, there is an organizational gap at this position at the moment.

If you trade for Lehner Hiller is gone as you can't risk losing Ortio for free on waivers.
I think if Lehner is traded for the Flames go really young with their tandem next season which I am not opposed to

Treliving has already said that the Flames 1st rounder is not in play unless something pretty much remarkable comes back.

I'm not so sure about that. Again, at that time of the season there are 29 other teams trying to get their own guys thru waivers. If the Flames who are mediocre in goal are waiving a guy...is he really that good that someone else is going to grab him and waive the guy they have that they know?
There's only so many roster spots in the NHL for goaltenders. If Ortio doesn't win a job at camp against a Lehner and Hiller, than you likely can get him to the AHL at that time.

Maybe but if a team has a veteran tandem why not scoop the 24 year old off waivers who has had impressive numbers 2 years in a row at the AHL level and played fairly well when called up to the big club?
If the Flames are paying quality assets to get Lehner and risk losing Ortio for free that is not the best asset management in my opinion

Chiarelli apparently told the media that he thinks there is a good chance he will acquire a goaltender before the draft on Friday.

Brad Ziemer @BradZiemer
Interesting tidbit from Benning: #Canucks will not sign D-man Patrick McNally, who just finished at Harvard. He was a 4th-rnd pick in 2010.
Brad Ziemer @BradZiemer
McNally becomes a free agent Aug. 15. Benning says #Canucks have other young offensive D-men like Subban and Hutton who are ahead of him.

I would be all for grabbing McNally. He's a decent offensive D-man, not as good as Morrison, but not bad in his own right. Don't know why Vancouver is opting not to sign him.

Got caught cheating with like 100 other students on a take-home final awhile back, and suspended for the better part of a year. Plus little interest in finishing education. So maybe attitude involved too.

How does one NOT cheat on a take-home final?

That team would then be required to keep him in the NHL I believe, meaning they would have to waive one of their own vets to fit him in.
