Herdman versus former Cdn woman's coach Pellerud or versus his native country? Either way, it should be interesting.

First half of this game went how I expected, second half has not. Even still, both these teams are entirely beatable. Our defense is better than Norway and our keeper is better, not overly worried about England doing that to us. No requirement for a Bachmann/Dickenmann type of containment strategy which will allow Buchanan and Chapman to push up and hopefully feed Sinclair in better position.

Good. I have no idea how weak England's lineup was in our friendly, but we dismantled them. The Canadians should at the least be more confident than if they were facing Norway.

A very winnable game for Canada. Should be a great match.

England is a smart team with a smart coach.

While Canada has the edge in this one, England has actually beat the Reds four out of their last five matches. The recently friendly in Hamilton was Canada's first win against England since 2011.

This one, as they say, is very even steven.

Canada looked better in that friendly than they have at any point in this tournament and it was only a 1-0 victory which is far from a dismantling.

Entire match (May 29)

Nice goal by Schmidt that won it, she has yet to show up at this tourney.

Of note is that we lost 1-0 to England in the Cyprus Cup final back in March on a goal by Sanderson, who did not play today. Chamberlain made a couple of huge saves that basically won it for them.

USA - Colombia --- 6 pm MT --- Edmonton
Winner plays China in Ottawa on Friday

Good weather here, thunderstorms in the area as usual but they should stay north of the field. Morgan will start, though I suspect she or Wambach will make way for Leroux or Press in the 2nd half especially if the US have scored a few. Big star for Colombia is Lady Andrade down the left flank but Holiday and Rapinoe have oodles of experience and might make quick work of her. We'll see.

Last time these two teams met, Lady Andrade punched out Wambach.

Yeah that happened, and she was suspended two games. Andrade has been talking crap as well.

Quote:
"They belittle us. They think we're a team they're going to walk all over and it will be an easy game for them," Colombian star Lady Andrade told USA Today. "We're going to beat them since they like to talk so much."
Really the US didn't say anything directly to provoke that, it's been entirely the media. Whatever, she's a good player.... so keep an eye on her down that left side.

Should have played this one in Winnipeg. Even Americans know not to go to Edmonton.

Given the beauty of that Winnipeg Stadium they should have tried to schedule as many games there as possible. It's the nicest venue we have.

Indeed. Plus, I'm not sure what they were expecting. "Hey! Wanna go watch a team everyone in Canada hates demolish an also-ran?"

Incidentally, there's still so many lower bowl tickets open for next weekend's quarter final game in Edmonton that they haven't even opened up the upper levels yet.

Solid bodycheck by Rapinoe. And now she's suspended for the quarter final.

Yup Holliday and Rapinoe suspended for the QF.

China hope these two teams kill each other.
