Any thoughts?

Well I like it a lot, more for 4th than Kessel, although I can be persuaded that he would work here.
TO and Kessel probably don't like it as much.

Flames have Gaudreau, Bouma, Raymond, Ferland and Bollig as L wing.
Depending where Bennett fits into the lineup, he might see duty there too.
Bouma had more points than Belesky last year (breakout year for both).
Ferland looks to be on the upswing
Who would Belesky replace? I don't see a fit here. In particular for the dollars and term that Belesky is likely to demand.

Toronto isn't starting their re-build by trading the fourth overall pick.
Hudler is probably more valuable than Kessel due to his contract, but the difference isn't moving up 11 spots in the draft. Babcock also limited Hudler greatly in Detroit. About zero chance a trade like this happens.
Toronto needs to worry about getting that youth before they worry about who's going to guide them.

This is a trade rumour.

Toronto gives Kessel and 4th overall to Calgary for Hudler, 15th overall and maybe a 2nd? Sign me up.
It's pretty awful for Toronto.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
OTT stepping up effots to trade a goalie this week. Still talking to other clubs about possible deals for Robin Lehner and Craig Anderson. Suspect Lehner is more likely to be dealt than Anderson, but talks on both are ongoing.
Not much new, but a link and some reading regardless:
Who's on the block? TSN’s Trade Bait board
http://www.tsn.ca/who-s-on-the-block...board-1.314041
Moving Kessel – whom Babcock has yet to meet face to face - may be more complicated, solely based on his limited no-trade clause. Kessel is required to submit a list of eight destinations - usually updated each July - to which he would accept a trade.
According to TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie, Kessel’s list includes Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
New Bruins’ GM Don Sweeney surely isn’t going down the Kessel road, even if he could afford it. The other seven clubs all have significant salary cap constraints - with Kessel being a pipedream to add for the Blackhawks, Kings, Canadiens, Wild and Rangers.
Of course, Kessel’s list could also change with a phone call. One team believed to be kicking the tires on Kessel are the Calgary Flames, whose president, Brian Burke, traded for Kessel in Toronto.
...
The Senators are shopping one of Robin Lehner or Craig Anderson and Dallas starter Kari Lehtonen is available. Calgary is willing to move Jonas Hiller. One of Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom is likely leaving Vancouver. Plus, the Ducks (John Gibson) and the Kings (Martin Jones) are toying with the idea of moving their backups.

I highly doubt the Flames are pursuing Kessel, he just doesn't seem to be a good fit. His contract would screw up our cap structure and I doubt he would buy into our system. Plus we surely aren't on his trade list anyway. These reporters need to stop reading so much into Burke being here.

I feel like Lehner is going to be a Calgary Flame soon. And that Hiller is of to SJ.
Gut feeling.

Joel Ward wants 4 years:
Alex Prewitt @alex_prewitt
Sounding more and more likely Joel Ward hits unrestricted free agency on July 1. Searching for four years. GMBM's spoken about the term gap.

Thats takes him to what 38? Kind of like Iggy in his size though. COuld be an effective 3 and 4th line RW on the back end of a 4 year deal. Still, too long for the Flames I think.

Post-apex. Ward, especially on that term, would be a mistake.

laughable.
Hudler and the 15th wouldn't get you either the 4th or Kessel, let alone both of them.
Kessel should fetch the leafs a 1st round pick, a player, and a prospect.
No team is moving a top five pick without a top 10 coming back and an elite/A-list prospect or an established star who is younger than 25 (remember the Seguin to the flames for Gaudreau and Monahan....yeah, kinda like that). The 4th overall pick is the most valuable asset the leafs have right now along with Morgan Reilly, and you think they're going to trade that for Hudler and a mid-round 1st? HA! that's good stuff man! Keep it up!! You should share that with HF Boards, or better yet you should email these jems to Trelivng and Burke. they would love the 'advice'.
I'm sure the leafs will be falling all over themselves to get their hands on a guy who has one 70 pt season under his belt and one year left on his contract plus a mid-round first, who is likely 3-5 years away from making any impact at the NHL level (and that's if he pans out).

Friedman's already come out and said the Flames aren't interested.
and the reason being is because it is going to cost the flames a lot more than they are prepared to give up; ie one of Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Brodie.

LOL the leafs would take the 15th for Kessel in a heart beat!
I agree with damage though, I think Hiller goes to the sharks and Lehner becomes a Flame by Thursday

Would not trade a single one of those players for Kessel.

Steinberg says he is hearing that Monahan's camp wants a long term deal for his next contract.
Thinks the Flames will counter with a 3 or 4 year deal.
