I mean going past is fine, but that's an easy putt if he hits it firm. He just choked. Two amazing shots and three disastrous putts.

Spieth is a good kid. Feels bad for not winning it in a playoff tomorrow.

Seemed like he was a little quick to hit that putt.
Not upset, but a little anti-climatic. Would have been happy with any of Day, Speith, or Johnson winning.
Wouldn't have been able to watch the playoff anyway.

Anti-climatic?
We must have watched a different ending.

I think Spieth has a really good chance at the Grand Slam.

I said "a little". A player winning off camera is obviously never as good as with a putt on the 72nd hole. And who are we kidding- we were all expecting at least a playoff.

What an ending. Feel bad for Johnson missing the birdie putt to send it to an 18 hole playoff tomorrow. I hope he wins one soon. Happy for Spieth though. A great kid and the youngest golfer ever to win 2 majors.

They said he's the 4th youngest but the other 3 guys are like before 1920

It's tricky, you have a putt to in the United States Open, you don't just nuzzle it up there to play tomorrow, but trying to win it is risky on these greens.

I take that missed putt over a 18 hole playoff.

that was a great US Open. Also glad it did not go to a playoff (although it would have been a great playoff). Cannot believe DJ 3 puts there.
Looks like the Tiger era is dead and buried, and it is the Spieth and McIlroy era. Would love to see those battling in one of the next majors.

It'll be the era of Speith, McIlroy, Fowler and... we need a 4th.
maybe Hideki Matsuyama? he's 22 or Brooks Koepka? he's 24

The first putt when too far past the hole leaving Johnson with a difficult second putt. I would think the nerves got the best of him after he left a long second putt. Still you have to feel for Johnson as i'm sure he'll be haunted by those 2 missed putts for a long time.

Early in three final round, they mentioned how DJ was the leading putter all week. He the finished the back nine with four or five three putts. He really fell apart on the greens. I'm also, not a fan of the 18 hole play off.

The awful greens were definitely a factor though. Same as they were with Spieth on 17. I don't think there was any way to stop that first putt from where it was.
It would be something to have a triple crown winner and golf grand slam winner in the same year. I imagine you could have won a lot of money betting on that at the beginning of the year. I guess it is still very unlikely, but the rate at which he is winning or coming in second and third in tournaments this year is pretty amazing.

all i could think of was that if DJ had to make that putt a 100 times; how many does he sink - 98 or so?
to me the frustrating part of the playoff is that you lose all the momentum and the drama that you create on sunday.

DJ never looked convincing on his 1st nor 2nd putt. It was as if he couldn't make up his mind between winning it outright and playing safe. Because of that he was emotionally shaken while making the 2 putt to force the playoff. A collapse like this could have longer term reprecaussion to a player's psyc.

While I liked how much Fox used the tracer and how they showed the yardages to different things (355 to carry bunker, etc) overall I really think they were overmatched. A bunch of time the cameraman couldn't find the ball rolling down the fairway and we had a camera panning the fairway. The cameramen following the golfers seemed really intrusive - I don't recall ever actually seeing the camera people following so closely in so many shots.
They may get those wrinkles ironed out, but I'm not sure their first broadcast being a high profile major was a good decision. They needed a couple smaller tournaments to figure out the bugs. Seeing the shot shapes and everything was great. The way they had no commercials for the end was great. They caught some good moments, but some of the sensationalism seemed a bit out of place.
Unless this is just the way Fox intends on doing it, in which case I am not a fan.

I want to see their coverage on a normal course, like this weekend at the US Senior Open.
That course yesterday was stupid. I could not tell one hole from another, it's no wonder they could not find the ball.
