That would be a good interim solution, but don't think it's neccessary long term. I would think the ring road would take a lot of load off of 162nd E to NB Macleod.
Oh really? I drover past that in the morning and wondered what happened. It was right on the exit ramp where it happened and on the inside of the corner. I'm not an expert but that seems counter to what a speed factor would do (where I assume that you would go off the outside? )
It was going to suck regardlesss of the design they chose for the next roughly 24 months. I think that design looks awesome though and should be a great fit for the flow of traffic. Now if they could implement something with the Shawville intersection and do something about the level crossing of the LRT/CP Rail I think I would be happy with 162 Ave.

That design is a work of pure genius. Wish we had one of those at Stoney Trail and Sarcee Trail NW, by Beacon Hill. That area is a cluster-fata.
You just know that someone is going to somehow find their way into the wrong lane though. SOMEONE is going to do it.

I think with proper lane barriers you can stop folks from going into oncoming traffic.
What will be a problem is that during heavy volume traffic there will be people blocking the intersections as they try to make the light. I would love to see tickets being handed out to those people.

On a related note: glad to see the city has scrapped plans "for now" for the roundabout on 68th street, in front of the Monterey Square. What a cluster-#### that would have been.
Where have you heard that? I thought that it's compiling feedback stage before making a decision.
I on the other hand hope it goes through since it would eliminate a stop light as well give southbound access to 68 street from Stoney onto 16 ave traffic. This city (established neighborhoods more so) needs to get use to more efficent ways of intersecting traffic like roundabouts and diverging diamond interchanges.

That shouldn't be too bad since most traffic would be turning left from EB 162nd onto NB MacLeod. Since that is going to be completely free flow with this design, there shouldn't be huge back-ups, particularly given how long the run-up is likely to be and the possibility of it being a dual lane exit.
