Whether he becomes a winger or continues to play center down the road, Backlund will always be one of those important cogs that every championship team needs. Very happy the Flames locked him up for 3 years.

I also just love his offensive zone entries too. Great signing.

Woo. I hope to see another 3 years of an even more productive Backlund. He's a player who bleeds Calgary Flames both on and off the ice.

He'll keep the 2C spot warm until Bennett is ready. What's not to like?

He reminds me of Regehr in this sense. I could easily see Backlund spending a decade with the Flames
Fair deal for all parties - good term and cap hit

I'm pretty excited and happy he'll be staying. I've said it before, I don't think there's another Flames that just loves being a Flame as much as Michael Backlund

I just hope with Backlund steps up and responds to this double his salary raise.
His offence ouput if repeated this season simply isn't good enough.
Reg 2nd line min and reg 2nd unit pp min should have resulted in more points for Backlund.
I think Backlund has it in him to be 50-60pt if he can stay uninjured.. I want to see him get to that.

Agree. Better than the old....

No doubt. Imagine how good he'd do if the Oilers hadn't single handedly destroyed the second contract and mangled re-signing RFAs for everyone?

I'm not a huge Backlund fan but I acknowledge that he's a better than average 3rd line center and this is a fair deal for what he brings to the table. I like the term in that it ends where the team will have a better idea if Jankowski can replace him.

We are gonna be seeing a lot of trades in the next little while. Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, and Stajan as centers all locked up. Shore Arnold Granlund Jooris Jankowski Reinhardt Byron Colborne. Some of the players will shift to the wing, I hope Backlund is one of them. Guy cant win a faceoff, but is a great defensive forward, and a move to wing could improve his offense.
Backlund has been a man made of glass for years. I like Backlund, but facts are facts. We can count on Jones missing 30 games a year, we can count on Backlund missing 20 lol! I laugh cause it is funny how snake bitten some players are.
I do like the signing though for a few simple facts. Backlund is a useful player. I honestly believe he wants to live in this city and be a Flame for a very very long time. That is important! I don't question his work ethic.
Good signing but nothing fancy! It is not like we were not going to sign him.

For someone who thinks this is Meh, you sure did blather on about it for a while.

Sweet. He's a real competitor. I think he has more goals in him somewhere, but what he provides outside the scoresheet is easily worth that contract.
Bouma next?

Still paid slightly less than his senior vasteras alumni Patrik Berglund. However Backlund's gotten just as far in the playoffs as Berglund. (2nd round exit)
Quick if you were ranking all time Swedish Calgary Flames Players, where would he rank? Higher than Marcus Nilson? Lower? 1 and 1a are Kent Nilsson and Hakan Loob. Better than Michael Nylander? Or Kristian Huselius?

Juice was definitely a better player the Backs is today. He was a wizard with the puck. I'd probably put Tommy Albelin ahead of Backs for now. With Back likely surpassing him at the end of next year.
I'd put Backs ahead of Nylander's time in Calgary as well as ahead of Marcus Nilsson.

Solid signing, he is a good (if unspectacular) player for this team. Our only good first round pick from that decade...
