The most interesting part of this whole article was this blurb:

Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been closely involved in the creative process for the second anthology film, which is set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.
Are we going to see two separate Star Wars movie universes? Just like how comics have done it in the past?

I don't think so. I just think they mean it won't tie in to the narrative of the sequel trilogy. For instance nothing that happens in Rogue One or this Boba Fett film will affect the new trilogy. But are all part of the same universe.

Is the Max Von Sydow role considered a rumor still or is it spoiler? Not sure what to make of the Nerdist article.

Maybe it's both? It leaked/rumor that Gwendoline Christie was the Chrometrooper. Now we have confirmation from Vanity Fair.

I think it would be interesting to discuss. Not sure if it would be considered spoiler to discuss the possibility of Von Sydow's possible role though. Cool if true.

Genre film icon Andy Serkis will play Supreme Leader Snoke in the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” film, StarWars.com reports.

There are few other details about the role, other than the fact that the fact that Serkis will film the part through motion capture, like many of his previous genre roles. Serkis did, however, share that his character has “been through some stuff” in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly.

I can't see them introducing another Sith Lord in the first movie. If they follow the original trilogy they really didn't introduce the true face of evil until midway through the second movie.

And I can't see a Sith Lord having a military title.

The name could be a lie though.

I'm wondering if this New Empire, the First Order is actually more inclusive in terms of Aliens.

I would love to see Snoke as something completely unseen.

Its funny looking at Kylo's mask, it just seems to be very Darth Revan like.

I honestly don't think there will be any Sith or Jedi. I think that's part of the aftermath of ROTJ and Anakin bringing balance. Balance sounds nice, but put into practice, you have these high-powered beings using only their personal moral code as guidance. It would likely allow for much stronger force-capable people, but may include people that are "good" doing not-so-good things. As well as people doing "evil" for the sake of good things rather than just gaining more power. The lines are blurred.

I think you may be right about some kind of balance, but many of the lines from the trailers refer to the force, and it's been confirmed that Serkis is the creepy voice saying "There's been an awakening ....."

So Serkis is either someone who uses the force or someone in touch with it. Plus much of the 2nd trailer deals with passing the force powers between generations. Maybe there was a balance, but it's been disturbed forcing Jedi and Sith to come out of hiding.

The concept of Anakin bringing balance to the force is still a weird comment, because at the end was the force bought fully back to the light and the darkness was vanquished?

That's not balance.

If you read the ROTS novel, they have some great passages about the darkness as in the dark side of the force, that even on a sunny day the darkness is everywhere and in every shadow. It also mentions that the Dark is generous and patient, and subtle.

I tend to think that the death of Sideous and Vader actually made things worse and the force would have bought forth even more dark side users to balance out the light side.

Been even more tempting to those that use the light.

Maybe with one true force user in the galaxy (Luke, Leia wasn't trained), and he went into hiding, the force lay dormant, but like an active volcano it eventually erupted and bought forth and even darker future.

Maybe Kylo was self taught in the force, and the darkness seized the opportunity and corrupted him which would be the awakening.

I pulled this from another bulletin board but:

Quote:
Many fans incorrectly assume that balance refers to an equal mix of both light and dark side users. However, as George Lucas explains in the introductory documentary for the VHS version A New Hope, Special Edition, this is not the case:

"[...] Which brings us up to the films 4, 5, and 6, in which Anakin's offspring redeem him and allow him to fulfill the prophecy where he brings balance to the Force by doing away with the Sith and getting rid of evil in the universe..."

In an interview, Lucas compared the difference between the light and dark sides as being like the difference between a symbiotic relationship and a cancer. A symbiotic relationship is one which benefits both parties and in which neither is harmed, whereas a cancer takes without giving back, eventually causing the death of both parties

Sounds like Hippy Jedi crap to me.

The Dark Side entirely gives back. It gives you the power to rise above everyone else. It gives you the power to push aside your morality to achieve a greater goal (peace and justice).

While the Jedi are servants to the force, and feel that because of that they are part of the universe. The Sith believe that they can make the universe and the force move around them.

The problem with the dark side of the force is that two users no matter how powerful they are will try to destroy each other.

The argument that was created in the legends EU with Jacen Solo was that the Dark Side of the Force in the hands of someone like Palpatine or Vader was that they were pretty much socio or psychopaths even without the Force, they were greatly flawed individuals with their over reaching goals being complete power.

In the hands of an enlightened individual, the Dark Side of the Force would be a powerful tool to dominate and re-order society with the end goal of bringing ultimate peace with the price being a society ruled by an enlightened one forever.

While the Jedi who are light side users build their philosophy around the concept of let the force decide their fates and get attached to nothing. The Dark Side is about you deciding the fates around you with the Force as a weapon at your disposal and attachment is fine because it ultimately gives you things to fight for and protect.

In the Dark Lord book, Palpatine was musing on that when he reflected on his masters teachings and learned that hate, anger and fear are all the emotions that the Dark Side user uses to become tuned to the Dark Side of the Force, but at some point, a proper Sith rises above those base emotions and gains the clarity to use the Force to gather power to be able to achieve his goals.

Where Palpatine and Vader utterly failed is that they both really just wanted power. Anakin wanted power to save his wife and protect the people around him, but he couldn't rise beyond his self loathing and anger and fear and hatred, so he failed in reaching his end goal.

With Palpatine, he saw a corrupt galaxy that was constantly in flux, he was able to rise above his hatred and rage and fear and used the force and his political instincts to fight a two sided war, push the jedi out of his path to his goal and gain power over the universe so that he could reshape it and rule it with the end game being a peaceful galaxy. The problem with Palpatine was that he became like the Jedi, once he achieved the goal that all Sith had which was the revenge against the Jedi over the Jedi's crimes against the Sith, and he ruled the galaxy, he became arrogant and lost his foresight.

In ROTS the Jedi message was that the dark side of the Force clouded their ability to use the force. The Jedi had become increasingly arrogant and the force went out of balance because of it. With Palpatine in ROTJ, he was the same as his old enemy, and the force swung back towards the other side.

When Anakin came back to the light, and killed Palpatine and himself, that was supposed to be the end of the Dark Side user. But I believe that we will find out that with only Luke as a true force user, and I'm betting there was no jedi knight academy, that he goes into hiding and nobody is using the force, that the force "awakens" and that causes a untrained force sensitive to fall to the darkside.

Then Luke comes out of hiding and offers to train a lightside user like Rey, and we slide back into an out of balance scenario.

There were also a lot of spoilers put out about Rogue 1, which is going to be like a second World War Movie about a Raid to capture the Death Star Plans.

They've likened it to Hamburger Hill in terms of the way it will be structured.

Also and thank god, no Jedi.
