I don't really understand the infatuation with O'Reilly. Yea he's a solid player, competes well and can play all positions. Upside, top of the class second line centre. So far so good, very talented... but all the drama surrounding this guy. He's a Daymond Langkow 2.0 to me, very good complimentary piece, but will all the hype one could think he's Gretzky 2.0.
No thanks, too much money, too expensive to acquire.

That makes two of us, I wish everyone would move on from this guy. We have great centre depth at the moment have more pressing needs than another one.

I don't blame him that much for not knowing about the KHL games, even his agent didn't know but his claim that the ruling would have been in dispute wasn't the main mistake.
In the long run it all worked out, we were terrible and got Monahan and the long awaited rebuild began. I also have no wish to return to the ROR sweepstakes. I don't see us needing another centre as our weakness is on defence and maybe in goal.

I'm not forgetting that at all. I'm simply answering the question that was asked.
And Feaster not asking for a ruling doesn't mean anything other than he didn't believe the rule applied, not that he didn't know O'Reilly played two games in the KHL.
And I'm not arguing with you at all on this. Just responding to his, then yours.

Most people don't forget what happened....we just should. Lots of rumours out there, Lehner to the Flames seems decent depending on what they'd ask for him. Hudler should get a boatload back if he's traded. Sharp and maybe others from the Hawks are going to have to be on the move. Will teams buy out players like Semin. What will happen with Lecavalier? Will the Avs move O'Reilly?
Point being, there's enough going on today to talk about in the 2015-2016 Trade Speculation and Rumours Thread without talking about stuff that happened over a year ago.

Going through the UFA list, I think there are a lot of guys that would really help the Flames. I thin Green is a pipe dream but it would be great to get Oduya as long as it wasn't a ridiculous contract. McQuaid is another interesting guy who could shore up our top 4 but wouldn't be bad on the bottom pairing. For forwards, I don't know if there's much worth signing so if there are any changes up front, I'm guessing it'll be through trades.

“It’s a tough market. It really is. You know who the teams are who are somewhat desperate, frankly, for goaltending. To me, I see two at the top of the list and that’s Edmonton and Buffalo. I know Peter Chiarelli is working pretty hard to nail down a goalie and he’s got Cam Talbot of the New York Rangers in his crosshairs. Robin Lehner, to some degree, out of Ottawa. Maybe John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks. Eddie Lack is definitely in play and the list gets a lot longer than that.
“Now, we’re not talking about game-stealers, but Edmonton and Buffalo are in a different scenario here. Those are teams that can afford a relatively young goalie. But Cam Talbot, what is he – 26, 27 years of age. That’s usually the time where a goalie shows his development and where he’s at. Do they get much better past 27? Yeah, potentially. But you’ve got a real strong indication of where they’re headed by that time, and that’s why Talbot is so highly-regarded.
“But beyond that, I don’t hear any bigger names from a goaltending perspective. But even those players – the New York Rangers, based on the interest they’re getting in Cam Talbot, they’re just giggling in the background. They know he’s a good goalie. They know that. But they’re going to hit a home run on rate of return.
“So in terms of the market, that’s about where it’s at for the goalies.”

I can't wait for O'Reilly to sign a long term deal somewhere so people quit talking about acquiring him.

Cam Talbot is a hot commodity. Edmtn, Cgy, SJ, Dallas + Florida have expressed interest. Multiple trade offers. First 3 most likely targets.
just ugh. If the Oilers are offering anything around their 16th pick then we shouldn't even be near that.

Brandon Kozun will play in Finland next season. Is that new news or am I way behind the times?

Don't think it is a coincidence that we are involved in the same targets as the Oilers.
Could be real interest, or we could just be driving up price.
There isn't a hope in hell we move our first for a goalie so I wouldn't worry too much.

So much smoke around the Flames getting a goalie I'm starting to think this is actually going to happen now. Started with Friedman saying both Hiller & Ramo could be gone next year and now the Lehner and Talbot rumours with the talk of Lehner coming from more than one reputable source.
No sir, I don't like it.

Who would have thought that Cam Talbot would generate such interest.
I usually think of a goalie as a last piece to add for the rebuild. It's not like Talbot is young or expected to grow much further.
Just an odd target at this point in the game.
I mean, is he not a UFA after next season?

These goalie rumours are a bit strange; do they really improve us over Hiller/Ortio?
I like Lehner to a point; but he isn't a significant upgrade, and what would the cost be?
Talbot I don't really understand at all.
Hopefully BT is just keeping his ear on things and has no real intention of making such a move.

Not sure why the goalie market would be so vendor-friendly. Bernier went for a second and spare-parts, Scrivens for a third, just a year or two ago.
The planets would need to align, but perhaps there is a chance to trade Hiller for a nice return and either retain Ramo or acquire another guy (for less than the return on Hiller).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Remember Hiller contract has 1 year remaining, I would think the Flames are looking at the bigger picture. Which may not include Hiller or Ramo.
As for Ortio, good question. Not sure what type of goalie he will be. (backup or a potential starter).

Talbot has 1 year left on his contract after which he too will become a UFA.

didn't he keep the NYR on pace for the president's trophy this year while Lundvquist was out??
He played 36 games, and had better gaa and sv% than the king during that time.
My main fear would be that the rangers have one of the best D cores in the league. Is there any normalization that needs to be applied when viewing the strong goaltending that was seen in NYR this year?
