Hiller to the Sabres for pick 31 (Brandon Carlo) and then make a deal for Lehner! If they want a goalie in return, who could we give up?

Top 6 forward and a pick is laughable.

Hiller has one more year on his deal. That would be a pretty bad trade for a team that is obviously rebuilding.

ya, I know.... but they do need a starter. Maybe if we ask really nicely? lol
What teams need a starter or an upgrade (if Hiller is that). It's hard to tell what teams could actually want Hiller.

Especially one that trades away any starting goalie they get their hands on!
Though maybe now that they've tanked and got Eichel, they'll actually want to start an NHL goalie?

yeah dont see a fit. BT not going to bring in another goalie unless 1 is moving out. This would be Hiller as Ortio has shown great promise. Ramo for all intents and purposes is already gone. The same rule applies regarding signing Ramo. We will not run 3 goalies.

Flames interested in Robin Lehner
I don't see what's wrong with Hiller and Ortio for next year. Hiller is ok, let Ortio win as much playing time as he can. Next season either Gillies is ready for backup (likely not) or sign another vet to backup
If Ortio isn't ready to be the starter in a year then sure there's an issue

Nothing against Lehner but I don't see why you do this unless it has been decided that Ramo isn't being signed and there are talks to move Hiller. Even then, why pay the cost for a goalie that's really no better than what's currently in hand?

Love all the eggs into the Gillies basket. Doesn't it typically take at least 3 years in the minors for an NCAA goalie to make it to the NHL if he makes it at all?
The old Sutterism comes to mind here: "Goaltending is never a problem until you don't have any." Basically, Ortio is promising but the verdict is still way out, Ramo is gone so we have Hiller as the only proven NHL goalie. What if Hiller or Ortio get injured?
What if you could trade for a huge athletic 24 year old goalie between a guy who's gone to FA next year, a promising but unproven AHL prospect and a college prospect who's 3 years away?
Look no further than St. Louis to describe what a lack of goaltending depth can do to your Cup aspirations.

Any interest in Brian Elliott of STL for 1 year at 2.5 Million? Blues tight to cap and want change look of goaltenders for next year. I think Ramo doesn't want back and Hiller not thrilled about playing for Hartley either. Notoriously hard on goaltenders.

I believe in the Jays.

I'd take Lehner... but only if we had another trade lined up for Hiller and the return was of comparable value as to what we'd give to Ottawa.

On Ottawa some think they want to off load Colin Greening as part of any deal..he's 6'3" 210 lbs.

Some were even suggesting that Gillies dress or even start in the playoffs. I'll never understand why some fans want to immediately rush prospects to the NHL especially when they haven't earned it yet, which just so happens to go against the core of the current team.

Until Ramo's signed, there is a danger that he won't be. And Ortio has 6 games under his belt (in which he looked great in a couple, good in a couple and just OK in his two losses). I wouldn't be putting all the eggs in the Ortio basket just yet.

He costs $2.6M and had 1 goal before passing through waivers and playing in the AHL... I think those are more important figures then his height and weight.
That being said if taking him on made the acquisition cost on Lehner cheaper I'd still be fine with it if we could move out Bollig in the process.

Some of all this "Flames are interested..." stuff is likely due to the factor Freidman mentioned the other day - Treliving doesn't feel right unless he has at least made inquiries on every player who is likely available. He doesn't want to say he missed out or never heard a guy was on the market.

Goalie prosecutes, even high-end ones, are such a crap shoot. Load the system with as many as you can carry/develop and try to stack your chances. Maybe Lehner goes Ben Bishop...or maybe he goes Jocob Markstrom...Its so hard to project.
value the risk according. Raymond + mid pick is worth the risk imo. That said, gotta think OTT is anxious about shipping out the wrong goalie, AGAIN...

I would trade one of our 2nds for Talbot or Lehner but it appears we've entered the twilight zone and now goalies suddenly have amazing trade value. I'm sure this is somehow Edmonton's fault. Their desperation has a way of changing reality for all NHL teams.
I wonder if we picked up Greening AND Legwand in the same trade, if we could get Lehner for a song? We could stuff those two guys in the AHL, we could easily afford it, no way another team would pick up two cap dumps. Stockton might even benefit by having a couple vets around though it would likely spell the end for Hanowski and someone else.
Just thinking out loud, I know it would be stupid/crazy to pick up Legwand and Greening.

Would the Flames maybe be a good partner with Ottawa in a trade for Lehner as they could take on Greening and his cap hit?
Lehner and Greening for a 2nd round pick, then bury/buy out Greening?
Ottawa don't get that forward they want, but they save $$ to make a deal/sign a UFA. Ottawa have stated they don't want to buy out Greening, as they feel a trade can be made
