Raymond and 53rd overall?

Honestly no idea if that's enough but about as much as I'd want to give up

Raymond would have more value if the Flames retained some money on him, especially to a budget team like Ottawa.

However, I'd assume if Ottawa wants a top 6 forward, then they'd most likely want an upgrade on what they have...

MacArthur
Michalek
Ryan
Stone
Hoffman

....Raymond isn't an upgrade on any of those guys IMO, and that's the Sens 5 top wingers.

If the brass wants to go with Lehner, i'm all for it. Give Sigalet some time with him, and see what he can do. This kid looked a world beater a few years ago-could be a Varlamov/ Bobrovsky type of scenario where a change of scenery does wonders.....

Ottawa looking to subtract F not add - looking to ditch Greening/Legwand and want to make room for Condra

Steinberg batted that idea around yesterday in the afternoon. From the end of season presser the one thing Treliving seemed certain of was that Ortio was on the roster next year. I don't really think Ortio is the one they move. Maybe if it was for a bonafide number one star goalie or something like that perhaps.

I think from the Flames perspective, neither goalie this season was, or expected to be, the long term solution. The last 2 off seasons, the Flames have been rumored to be in on trade talks for young goalies. None worked out for them, so Hiller was signed.

While this season was a success, neither goalie forced Hartley to name them as #1. The success of the Flames in net this year was more attributed to Hartley picking the right guy at the right time.

For that reason, I wouldn't bring back either goalie either. Let 2 new guys take a crack at being the solution.

All it takes is one other team to be high on him, look at what Berra returned.

Raymond and a late 2nd would be a trade I would be happy about

The only value Raymond might have is bringing you back a bit of cap space. He is not a piece to bring back anything of real value.

I'm a little torn on Lehner. On the one hand he has great tools to become a very good NHL goaltender. On the other hand, he had a little regression after 2 seasons as the backup and save percentages over .930. The problem is, as soon as he received more playing time, his numbers took a dip and it looks like he has some holes in his game that will take time to iron out. He's turning 24 in a month, so he's still incredibly young for a goaltender.

But then you look at our current and future situation and I just don't see a need. Is he an upgrade on Hiller? Possibly. I'm not even convinced that he'd offer more in the short term. Is he better than Ortio? Well his pedigree says he is, and he's about 2 seasons further in his development, but all the numbers over the past couple of years indicate they are comparables at both the AHL and NHL level.

We also already have probably one of the top goaltending prospects in the league with Jon Gillies heading into his first pro season. Trading for Lehner makes sense if you're the Oilers and you have zero decent prospects in the pipeline, but the Flames already have 2 decent ones in development (Gillies and McDonald), and 1 about to graduate to the NHL this year (Ortio). Plus, the Flames already have Hiller under contract for this year and he's a more than capable veteran who can handle at least 40-50 games well enough.

Bringing in Lehner would just recreate the situation we had last year with Hiller as the veteran who can win but has holes in his game, Lehner as the young promising goaltender who will have great stretches but also has holes in his game, and Ortio as the guy who can outperform both but is stuck as 3rd stringer. Not to mention that the reported cost for Lehner is too high for something that we don't even necessarily need.

It's good that Treliving is looking into things like this, but I hope he doesn't do this unless it's part of a larger deal.

Not a fan of this if true unless it's very cheap, He has always been a step behind Anderson and this year Hammond as well.

A post I read online suggests that Lehner is waiver exempt for 10 more pro games. Retaining Hiller and Lehner while evaluating Ortio makes a kind of sense, as Lehner provides some insurance if Ortio doesn't work out and also gives the Flames another goalie to play in the AHL while Ortio auditions. That would also mean a cap hit of Lehner's salary minus $950K (so $2.25M - $0.95M = $1.3M) while Lehner plays in the AHL though.

Why do people think anyone wants a $3 million dollar 4th liner in Raymond?
Any time a trade rumour comes up people think we can just move our worst assets for other teams best assets...it never fails.

Apparently the Sens may want Ortio in the trade for Lehner (FAN). Flames to add pick and/or player. Edmonton offer said to be different in that no goalie going back (player + pick).

Sounds like the Sens brass aren't overly happy with how Lehner has handled himself with a crowded net.

I would be stunned and hugely disappointed if the Flames trade Ortio. I understand the want for a larger goaltender but I can't believe they wouldn't see the talent they have in Ortio who I firmly believe would be our #1 next season. Anyone who has watched him over the past 2 (or more) years can tell you he's the real deal.

I don't know how I'd feel about giving up Ortio at this point, he's shown that he has the talent to make it. I'd like to get Lehner and keep Ortio if there was a way and go with that tandem next season. I guess they'd want a goalie to replace him in the system though and Hiller doesn't fit that mold.

It would be a bad decision to trade Ortio, as he has proven by the chances he got last year he is capable of playing in the NHL. Lehner would be alright but I think it only happens if Hiller is dealt. Hiller had a decent year last year and could bring back a good return from a team that could use an experienced goalie.
